I’m coming to the Seattle area to help d.s. (recent grad) begin to furnish his first place. He’s looking for better than Ikea, but not as pricey as Crate&Barrel. Dania is a nice compromise (a little contemporary, but not outrageously expensive or modern as BoConcept). I’m familiar with the chains (Pottery Barn, Restoration Hdw., Room&Board, Macy’s, etc.), but do not know anything about the local stores. Any recommendations?

We recently bought some furniture from Mor and are pretty pleased. We found items in a wide variety of prices and styles and exactly what we wanted. The store is HUGE, you could fit several Macy’s inside, so really, very big. We’re so not Pottery Barn or Restoration people, but we did see things of that type there.

I’m not sure where you’re from, but Craigslist here can be pretty fruitful, especially if you look at things from the Eastside (home of Microsoft), where people tend to have high end items. I have a friend who’s found all kinds of great furniture there, from an entire art deco bedroom set to an antique chair to a leather couch.

Try Estate Interiors in Bellevue for higher-end consignment furniture. The quality is high and many of the prices are in the Dania range.

My sister has bought a couple of things at Moe’s.
Our family room and “play room” furniture is from Costco. The leather in the FR has held up well. The fabric sectional in the PR is very comfy (kids have spent nights on it) and was pretty inexpensive.

I second the consignment stores. Plenty of bargains, but sometimes the stuff is pretty dated.

If you like what Dania sells, check ScanDesign (they used to have a nice “scratch and dent” floor):

[Scan Design Furniture - Contemporary Furniture - Washington and Oregon](http://www.scan-design.com/)

Their Lynnwood store is located near a large cluster of furniture stores (Anna’s, Dania, Underhill’s, Macy’s furniture gallery, and many smaller ones). Let me think some more…

Here is a local furniture store that is not part of a chain:

[Bothell Furniture - Your Favorite Seattle Furniture Store](http://bothellfurniture.com/)

And this is the store where we bought our beautiful granite-top dining table (made in the US!):

[Seattle and Bellevue Furniture | Schoenfeld Interiors](http://www.schoenfeldinteriors.com/)

One more store to consider - Kasala (including their outlet):

[Kasala Outlet - SODO - Seattle, WA](http://www.yelp.com/biz/kasala-outlet-seattle)

The first review even states, “…Um I love this place. It’s great if you’re looking for modern or contemporary furniture between Ikea and Crate and Barrel prices in an unpretentious environment. …” :)

Kasala! We bought some furniture there (maybe kitchen stools?) when we moved to this house 20 years ago. Very nice contemporary items.

There were a number of furniture stores on Western beneath the pike place market. Not sure what’s still there or if they’re all high end.

West Elm is down at South Lake Union

And we do have Dania, too.

Costco and Craigslist are possibly the best deals in the Seattle area. I’ve also liked the furniture sold at Sam’s Club.

Note that if you plan on buying furniture at Costco, go to the one in Woodinville/Maltby as the sales tax rate is only 7.7% versus 9.5%.

As mentioned above, the Lynnwood area has a lot of furniture stores, including a JR Furniture (Canadian chain). Underhill’s is known for its wood furniture and has a great scratch and dent section.

If he will be living in Snohomish County, I’ve had good luck with a furniture store up in Mount Vernon. As it’s a more rural area, they carry a lot more traditional styles. They usually have no sales tax and free shipping to anywhere in Snohomish County (which is almost as large as Delaware).

Fred Meyer (a large hypermarket chain now owned by Kroger) has a large furniture section and runs a lot of specials, particularly on recliners. There often have “buy beer and furniture, get $50 back” rebates that would also be valid for Costco and Sam’s Club purchases.

One of the side benefits of living in an area with lots of wealthy people is that the 2nd hand furniture is high end and very cheap - but not, typically, at the consignment stores. Craigslist in this area is very active. Estate sales are great around here for both prices and quality.

We have had some good luck at Greenbaum’s in Bellevue in their closeout section, but I can’t imagine a new grad being excited about getting a $3200 chair for $750. There is a store in Redmond called Diggs and Dwellings, kind of warehouse style with decent prices.

We used to get our furniture through a guy who had a business leasing furniture to realtors, some slightly used, most brand new for only a few hundred above wholesale, but he retired a few years back.

Thanks all. This is a great starting list! I went on Yelp but was overwhelmed with the number.
Is Moe’s still in business? Yelp mentioned it was closed.

Is this the store you are looking for? It looks like there is one that will open in Tukwilla on March 1st (not far from the Southcenter mall and Seatac airport).

[Seattle Furniture Store | Moe’s Modern Bedroom, Dining Room & Living Room Furniture Collection - Seattle, Federal Way and Vancouver BC Furniture Store](<a href=“Moes Home Collection”>Moes Home Collection)

The furniture stores on Western are mostly high end, very nice but pricey. Try Southcenter Parkway where the area seems lined up with furniture stores, including Macy’s, Dania, Scan Design, etc. if memory serves me right. Google it to make sure.

Be careful with Costco furniture. Everything looks reasonably sized in the gigantic warehouse until you take it home! Price is great if you find what you like. Take measurement of entryways and such.

The Seattle area is so spread out that it really depends on what area your son will be living in. We have a sectional sofa from Costco that we have been pleased with.

Most of our furniture purchases have been from Bothell Furniture mentioned above by Bunsen. It is a wonderful independent store in a suburban town on the East Side. Very responsible and a nice manager there. I have been a customer for 20 years.

I would check out Costco.com. If you receive something and decide you don’t like it, simply schedule a pickup and return the item-- delivery and returns all at no charge.
