Seattle University- Is it on the Rise

I have recently been accepted to seattle in the school of Science and Tech with a decent amount of grant money that helps bring the price down to a much more manageable amount, actually not too much more than what i would be paying for a UC here in california. here are a few questions i had to anyone who knows the school especially recently since ive been hearing that the school has changed quite a bit over the last four years.

What are the level or qualities of Academics within the school of Science Tech?
What is the area around the school like–I haven’t been yet?
Are most of the buildings on campus up to date and impressive?
What is the state of redhawks athletics, i’ve seen stories from 2007/8 that basketball was coming back and that the school was pushing for D1, however i have not seen anything later than these years?

Thanks for any input, it has been hard to find very recent reviews of the school, most reviews i have read are four years old and rate the school as a B/B+ all around. However many have said the school is on the rise and that in the next four years (07-11) the school would be renovating and rebuilding many of the main buildings. I am interested to hear about the “new” seattle U that so many people have talked about.

Show me the academic ranking over the past five years to demonstrate this “rise.” If it hasn’t increased in the rankings, it isn’t on the “rise.”

for earlier years,

HOWEVER this is a SU site but it does have links to US news rankings but it seems that the only significant rise in rankings have occurred from 2000-2007 where the SU ranked 7th from 2007 its risen to 6th in the WEST regional. Significant? in my opinion slightly

Behind only----1Trinity, 2Santa Clara, 3Lmu, 4Gonzaga (apparently there are ties??), 4 Mills (all girls), 6 Cal Poly, 6 Seattle University

I don’t know much about the school, but the surrounding area is very appealing to those who want a true urban location. Capitol Hill in Seattle is known for night life, culture, funky shops, restaurants, diversity, and gay tolerance. Downtown Seattle is a few blocks away.

As you would expect in the city, crime can be a problem. Some of the poorer neighborhoods are nearby. And if you’re looking for an idyllic location surrounded by trees, this is not the place for you.

jumping one spot is not “on the rise.”

Yes I would agree, but i’m looking for someone who has experienced the school over the last few years that could say a bit about what is changing on campus because it seems like from what ive read most of the problems the school has had have been fixed

My daughter is agonizing between Seattle and U of the Pacific. She will be a Chemistry major. I prefer Seattle if I’m visiting, but don’t want to use that as the standard.
