SEC seeks court approval to expel LSU

The SEC has amended a filing in federal court to determine whether or not it can expel LSU from the conference:

Apparently there is a difference between pro and semi-pro.

Very reasonable move by the SEC to prevent college football players from testing the pro waters while retaining college eligibility.

Empty threats. Just barking to remind them to stay in line. And the LSU fan base is delusional if they think they could go to a better conference.

Big 10 would never take them, especially since they are aligned with the SEC on pro players. And their academics would probably be the worst in the conference.

The NBA you can declare for the draft but have to leave b4 the draft happens.

It’ll be a cold day in hell before the SEC expels one of its top 3 teams and in regards to notoriety, arguably its top!!

They still have Alabama, OU, Texas, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee…

Do any of them have Lane Kiffin and Will Wade, plus Livvy Dunne as a “notoriety” piece?

In the case of all news is good news, that’s LSU. Those other schools compliment LSU - but are the “greater” - maybe Bama when it had coach Saban, definitely not OU or the current UF, maybe UGA, not UTK.

Historically, I would put them all above LSU (combo of wins, win%, and NCs). Maybe Tennessee and UGA would be equal to LSU. (the Vols were great under Majors and UGA is in its current golden era).

In terms of hype, yes, they’re always hyped. At least every year for the last 20 or so.

I agree it’s all empty threats. The SEC is simply showing the judge in the Federal case that they are serious about enforcing conference rules (which obviously they can do.) Next up: Federal court hearing in Birmingham tomorrow at 1:00 CT.

The most “valuable” schools in the SEC are: Texas, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Tenn, and then LSU (slightly ahead of UF).

There’s different studies. Another shows A&M high like #3 overall and LSU #12 of all schools. It depends on how the value is determined -like other ranks.

LSU is the story team now.

Losing them isn’t going to happen.

I agree it’s not going to happen but LSU is not the SEC kings in term of overall value.

Here’s a CNBC ranking that does have aTm much higher but LSU is 6th again among SEC schools.

Yeah that’s the one I saw with A&M #3.

I’m saying they have the ‘it’ value at least for 2026. They are the team of today making the conference relevant. That’s the team you want to see !!!

If I were Tulane’s president, Id make a pitch to rejoin the SEC and say screw LSU, we’re the best school in Louisiana.

That would solve their male/female imbalance overnight and instantly upgrade the SEC’s academic profile.

Same odds as LSU getting kicked out. And the conference already has academic heft but yes some lightweights too comparatively - unlike the ACC which has maybe one.

Tulane doesn’t bring 1% of what LSU does. Nice thought though.

The SEC is the weakest academic conference compared to Big 10 and ACC. The Big 10 has some academic heavyweights too.

The SEC could also swap out LSU for Miami and their academics would improve.

And we know Clemson and FSU want in. Honestly, when they pull in a strong academic school, they take advantage and promote it but it’s not why they are doing it. It’s $$$$ and little else.

Under both Johnny Majors and Phil Fulmer (who was the coach when the Vols won their last national championship in football). Just for the record.

But I’m basing on 2026. Not decades ago.

This ended quickly. LSU caved. No NFL players.

Trust me, I am painfully aware that it has been decades.
