Sorry about the title. Well, not really.

Gender: Male
Ethnicity: An incomprehensible mix (diversity ftw); for the sake of simplicity, I’ll say 50% white/50% Indian. I may decide to leave my ethnicity unspecified.
Location: medium-sized Rhode Island town (moved to US from Oxford, England before grade school).
School: Sends very few grads to top schools (according to school profile, avg. SAT score is 1417/2400)

Class Rank: 1 out of 241

GPA: 4.0 unweighted; school doesn’t weight
Courseload: described as “most rigorous” by GC

SAT I: 750 V, 800 M, 760 W, 2310 total (one sitting)
ACT: 34 composite (one sitting)
SAT II: 790 Math II, 790 Physics

APs:
Chemistry (5) (only AP offered before senior year)
Calc AB (school doesn’t offer BC)
US History
English Lit
(Note: the only other APs my school offers are Art Portfolio, Spanish, Bio and Govt)

(Significant) Extracurriculars:
(Note: Grades 9-10 are very weak; I used to be a total recluse, spending all of my time with books/videogames/nerd hobbies, which I still indulge in from time to time)
Varsity Cross Country (grades 11-12; Captain; Academic All-State)
Varsity Indoor Track (11-12; possible Captain – coach said that I have less experience than other candidates, but am much more responsible)
Varsity Outdoor Track (11-12; 3rd Team All-Division)
Math Team (10-12)
National Honor Society (12; El Presidente)

Work Experience:
Busboy/Food Runner at award-winning local restaurant (1 school year; ~15 hrs/wk)
Counselor/Teacher at summer camp for 5-8 year olds (2 summers; ~30 hrs/wk, 6 wks/yr)

Volunteer Work:
Local church functions
Computer/IT work, organizing classrooms/supplies, etc. at parent’s preschool
Middle school track meet official; occasionally work w/ middle school XC team
NHS fundraising (for local soup kitchen, etc.)
Total: about 80 hours or so

Summer Programs:
National Student Leadership Conference (11 days last summer; attended program at American University on International Diplomacy, United Nations etc. Subsequently decided that I want nothing to do w/ international relations, but it was very fun nonetheless)

(Significant) Academic Awards:
2006 RI State Science Fair: 1st Grant Award
2008 University of Rhode Island Chemistry Contest: Finalist
Brown University Book Award
Rensselaer Medal
Herbert & Claiborne Pell Medal for Excellence in US History (it’s an RI-exclusive thing)
National Merit Semifinalist (PSAT score: 223)

Recommendations: One amazing (English teacher), one okay (AP Chem teacher; knows me well, but I know that she isn’t a very good writer)

Essays: Common App/personal statement is great; others are works in progress

Majors: (in order of current preference)
Physics, Astronomy, Astrophysics, Computer Science?

Schools:
MIT
Stanford
Harvey Mudd
Rice
Carnegie Mellon
RPI
Case Western Reserve

Anywhere else I might look to apply? Financial aid is quite important; my family makes about $85,000 a year. Particularly, can anyone suggest some good safeties that compare academically w/ RPI, but are warmer/have more girls (rather shallow reasons for choosing a college, I know)?

This bump has been brought to you by astrobear™.

MIT - reach (its for everyone + ur a guy…)
Stanford - reach (its for everyone)
Harvey Mudd - match/reach
Rice - high match
Carnegie Mellon - match
RPI -safety
Case Western Reserve - safety

another safety u can look at is university of miami and tulane if u want warm weather… + their party schools…

I’m not looking for party schools per se; rather, I’ d be happy at a school with at least a somewhat vibrant social life. Bump…

Bumpage…

Bump again. Keep it coming, people…

MIT - reach
