Second BA at a CSU after UC - unit caps?

Apologies if this isn’t the right board for this question.

I got a BA from UCLA about 1.5 years ago and I haven’t had much luck in the job market, so I’m considering going back to school to get another degree. Seeing as I still live in CA and have a fair amount of transferable credits from my UC and CC days, I figured the CSU system would be a good target.

So here’s the (possible) problem: my time in college was a disaster owing to inconsistent goals, emotional problems, etc, and one result was that I nearly reached my unit cap for the UC system. Would reaching my unit cap for the UC in some way impinge on my ability to take units at a CSU?

If it’s relevant, I’ll probably have to apply as a transfer student using my existing credits and some other classes I’ll have to take, because (and this is a long story I won’t bore you with) I never took my SAT/ACT or anything.

You’re better off going for a master’s.

I agree that a master’s would significantly be better. Many of the more desirable career paths have (relatively) early career ceilings if you don’t have a graduate degree anyway. Do CSUs even offer opportunities for a second bachelors?

Yes, some CSUs accept second bachelor’s degree students:

However, the number of campuses and majors actually admitting second bachelor’s degree students may be limited. You may have the best luck at non-impacted majors at non-impacted campuses.

What job do you have now and what do you want to do?

Are you looking for something secure or something you are passionate about?

I would look into MS in accounting. A lot of programs are open to career changers.

There are also nursing programs that are tailored for people who want get a 2nd bachelor’s in Nursing.

You can also probably get in a CSU for a MS in engineering if you go back to CC and take a couple of physics and math classes that are required for the major. You will probably have to make up for all the rest of defiencies in classes before starting MS program.

I would look into those unless you are thinking about something.

Not sure if what your BA is in or what you are considering as a field of study now - so it is tough to give you much guidance. The job market for college educated people is pretty strong in much of CA… perhaps you need to be more open minded about where you are willing to work.

What’s your BA in, what do you want to study now and why?
