Take credit where credit is due, collegealum.

Harlem is gentrifying at a very rapid pace.

"I am still waiting for a pm that offers me a 20 percent discount on a place in Manhattan because Manhattan is tainted. I am not that interested in the Washington Heights area because that area is too far from the action. I will take a place on the east side near Bellevue. Not too close to Bellevue. I dont want to catch anything. "

It is not the probability of exposure to germs, it is the sirens that would drive me nuts! :)

Oh the story from last night - a person here was freaking out when said person heard of Ebola in Bellevue. Lol - not THAT Bellevue, not the MSFT second home, nope! I would not mind if real estate prices dip a bit in Bellevue. :)

When I lived up that way, Bellevue was the psychiatric hospital…

Nrdsb4, great story.

Jym626, you are talking about the doctor?

I am not an expert on Harlem. I would not call Harlem upscale. Others know more. I prefer the areas south of midtown.

Bellevue was well known for its psychiatric unit, but it has long been the best-known unit in the NYC public hospital system. It has inpatient units for every specialty, outpatient clinics, a prison unit, etc., etc.

Yes, Dr. Spencer’s apt is in Harlem. Some of the areas right around Columbia are pretty desirable. Not sure if thats where he is.

Jym 626, Ok.

BunsenBurner, lol.

Lol BB.

No, his apartment is nowhere near Columbia. Harlem has beautiful housing stock on many streets and many classic prewar apartment buildings. Brownstones go for millions of dollars, and new condo construction is way up. The situation there has changed a lot in the past 5 years and it has become a very desirable area as the rest of Manhattan has skyrocketed in price.

The area around Columbia is called Morningside Heights but there is a very steep hill separating it from Harlem proper.

Wow. Sounds like its really changed a lot! Great to hear!

Not so great for longtime residents who can no longer afford to live there. But yes, a big change. The same is happening in the second traditional African-American neighborhood in NYC, Bedford-Stuyvesant in Brooklyn.

Ooh, thats a bummer.

Ebola is indeed a BIG deal in the US because of the huge economic damage it can inflict from hysteria.

That’s exactly what I told a FB friend from NY today. I’d have the whole place to myself (which is a good thing, because watching me bowl is not a pretty thing).

My, my, hasn’t this thread just become a hilarious love-fest! Talk about hysterical…

Try it. You might like it. C’mon in- the water’s fine, as they say. Its a lot better than HYSTERIA.

@frugaldoctor - thanks for coming back. You probably missed my question to you umpteen pages ago. If you had money to donate to any of the international causes addressing Ebola, such as MSF or PIH, which would you choose?

(if I don’t hear back from you here, I’ll PM you)
