Second short essay on Georgia app

I am a little confused by the second short essay on the Georgia app:

Essay B
“Each friend represents a world in us, a world possibly not born until they arrive, and it is only by this meeting that a new world is born.”
Anais Nin
From freshman year to now, we know that you have interacted with a number of people in your high school who are different from you and have affected who you are now. Tell us about one such relationship, with a focus on the details of your interaction, not the person.

Are they asking for me to write about someone completely different from myself, that I’ve come to be close with/learned something from? Or can I write about my best friend, who I met in high school, and has affected who I am today, even though we do have common interests? (I go into specifics, of course)

Thanks!

I don’t think it matters who you talk about. Just focus on how they’ve affected you and what you’ve learned from the relationship. I would try to incorporate any significant differences between you and your friend.

That’s my take on it anyway. I’m sure there isn’t one way to interpret this question.
