Hi - new user here,

I’ve just finished high school, and two of my classmates recently caught my attention with their interesting acceptance stories.

One of them applied early decision to Cornell and was deferred. Later, she was waitlisted during regular decisions. Afterwards, she received a letter saying that the university still really wanted her, but not for first year. Instead, they wanted her to come for sophomore year after attending first year elsewhere.

The other classmate basically had the same story, except with Columbia.

Has anyone ever heard of universities doing this??

I’ve honestly never come across anything like this in my university research, so I thought I’d see if others find it perfectly normal.

Thanks!
