Second Year at Emory?

Is that program mandatory or optional?
Do most people opt to register for it? I am still a bit confused on what it is…
I’m a transfer student incoming this fall so I’m not sure if I should do it (if it is optional).

Any opinions?

It’s not really mandatory. It’s mostly just a bunch of events and resources that help you through your second year at Emory. If I remember correctly, in order to sign up for housing, you had to complete the Second Year at Emory Registration Survey. I am not sure if you had to do that when signing up for housing, but I did.
You can find more information here: [SYE : About SYE](<a href=“Residence Life and Housing Operations | Emory University | Atlanta GA”>Residence Life and Housing Operations | Emory University | Atlanta GA)

“In its current year, SYE offers many of its original programs: the Welcome Back Barbeque, Sophomore Pinning Ceremony, and faculty dinners. Two academic advisors are on-site at the Woodruff Residential Center and offer their serivices to second-year students. Additionally, SYE offers the SYE Kickoff, a series of programs at the beginning of the fall semester that is intended to prepare students for their second year.”

Uniquely to Emory University (as far as I know), you become an alumnus/alumna sophomore year at the pinning ceremony.

The rest of it looks like the availability of advising and social events. If you pledge a fraternity/sorority, that will likely replace the social events.
