Secondary school report

Hey folks,

I have more of a common app-esque question but since I’m applying to yale scea I want to see what the veterans here think.

http://www.ugadm.northwestern.edu/documents/UG_Admissions_SecondarySchoolReport.pdf

If you look on the SSR (the second page) you’ll notice that the GC rates students based on academic achievement, ec’s, and personal qualities (w/e that means). Does anyone know how much weight this holds?

My school doesn’t rank but I’m in the top 6-7 kids out of a class of 190 that sends around 15 kids to top schools (USNEWS Top 20 schools is what I’m defining as “top school”). This will informally be mentioned in the letter. Also, my schedule is “most demanding” which I know holds weight. But how important are the other portions I mentioned above?

Even when high schools don’t rank, most do for internal purposes – selecting the valedictorian or salutatorian based upon highest GPA, outside scholarship awards, etc – so, I’m willing to bet your GC knows where each student stands in the pecking-order at your school and will fill out the SSR with that in mind.

How important are the other sections (academic achievement, ec’s, and personal qualities)? It depends on what your GC writes. If your GC has some knowledge of you, they could write glowing comments which would only help. Then again, if they don’t know you and write N/A, Admissions will look toward your teacher recs for that info.
