Oreo-stuffed chocolate-chip cookies - I will have to try those this week! Any particular dough recipe or just the Toll House one on the package of semi-sweet chips?
Here’s the link that was posted previously and you can find tons online: http://getinmybelly.com/oreo-stuffed-chocolate-chip-cookies/
It’s different than the Tollhouse recipe - I think it has more flour so it doesn’t melt off the oreo while baking.
I’ve never heard of this puppy chow thing either, @notelling.
I’ve never had puppy chow either. East coaster.
I loved sloppy Joes in junior high school, but my mom didn’t make them and I’ve never actually learned what went in them either.
My girls loved Sloppy Joes. Should I tell you I sometimes used a little ketchup?
After Roseanne opened that Loose Meat sandwich shop, I called them that.
West coaster and have never heard if puppy chow despite having to supply kiddos sports teams with snacks.
Here’s the most popular Sloppy Joe recipe on all recipes. Most recipes call for ketchup. Loose meat is different in that the recipe is not usually tomato based and seems to be limited to the midwest.

You can find all kinds of variations and twists on puppy chow if you search on pinterest. It’s also known as Muddy Buddies. Maybe some of you know it by that name.
Yes, Muddy Buddies! And DH only likes Hunts Manwich… at least I make my own bread!
My sloppy Joes are ground beef, onions, peppers, and Heinz Chili Sauce. They’re so good! I sometimes add a little ketchup if I need a bit more sauce. I use 1 bottle to 1 lb beef. Don’t forget to toast the buns!
I’ve always assumed sloppy Joes had ketchup or similar sauces.
Here’s a little secret - a tablespoon or so of ketchup is really good in tuna salad. You can’t taste it, but it somehow balances the flavors. (I also use real mayo and Dijon mustard.)
The sloppy joe posts are reminding me of something my kids were discussing over the holidays. They were talking about their favorite foods growing up. 2 of them said they loved the sloppy Joe’s I used to make and how I never make them anymore.I told them I never made sloppy Joe’s. They insisted I did. It came to me that when my S was growing up he didn’t like pasta. I would give him the meat spaghetti sauce on top of a piece of French bread and told him it was a sloppy joe. I guess they both believed me. So my secret sloppy joe is ground beef mixed with a jar of spaghetti sauce.
@auntiek, I never thought of using the Heinz Chili Sauce and am so glad you mentioned it. Most stores around here only carry the Hunt’s Manwich sloppy joe sauce, but one time a few years ago I found a can of Heinz Sloppy Joe. It was so much better, but I haven’t found it since. It tasted a lot like the Chili Sauce, now that you mention it. Thanks!
When I was a kid I hated Sloppy Joes–school cafeteria version–and no one in my family makes them, so I haven’t had one for the last 55 years or so.
Now, something that has had a bad reputation that I used to make which was really delicious was creamed chipped beef. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to get good dried beef in a long time. All that is in the stored now is some kind of reformed processed meat product.
Just an FYI, the manwich and chili sauce are both loaded with sugar. It’s like hamburger candy.
We make our sloppy joes with chicken gumbo soup
I add Heinz Chili sauce, Heinz ketchup and dill pickle relish to Hillshire Farm Beef Li’l Smokies, cook for a few hours covered on low, stirring occasionally. We simply call it “weiners 'n sauce”.
Along the line of the previous post, I think you should call it “Candy Weiners”. Kind of sounds like a stripper name.
That it does!
My brother has started make my awesome dried beef. He buys very thinly sliced beef and uses a dehydrator. He also seasons it. It’s very tasty and I’m sure loaded with salt!
Creamed Chipped Beef was a regular on my lower school lunch menu, outside Phila. Loved it, but suppose it’s about as healthy as biscuits and gravy. The beef came in packages, not jars. You can look for it online. http://davescupboard.blogspot.com/2009/01/remember-real-dried-beef.html
Look at the Amish or Pa Dutch suppliers.
Here’s another. http://eshfoods.com/dried-beef-chipped
And look, they have pork scrapple and a turkey version. (As I say, you can take the girl out of Phila, but you can’t take the Phila out of the girl.)
