Have any of you heard about the website and the book it offers?

Does the website/book have any merit?

Given that they’ve completely misrepresented the AAMC data by touting that 97% of all med school applicants will get rejected, they’re using the exact same scare tactics they accuse Kaplan and other test prep companies of using.

Considering their “sample chapter” recommends finding teacher’s editions of college textbooks (because supposedly professors seldom write their own tests, and simply use the pre-made ones supplied by the book) you should memorize the answers to all the questions in the question bank, I think this is probably a scam.

Also the lack of any way to contact the authors or anyone on the website is suspect.

Seems they make ALOT of assumptions and generalizations…Check out the
“Whom not to talk to page”.

-No credentials…
-Some of the acceptance rate facts for particular schools are dead wrong…
-The “About the Authors” section states the book is written by medical students and admissions officers however, the “Whom not to talk to section” clearly advises not to talk to talk to admissions counselors or students at schools you are interested in…Who is to say one of the authors isn’t an admissions counselor or student at a school you are looking to attend?

lol What? “We’ve sold and delivered more than 20 copies.”

LOL! where does it say that sar? That’s pitifully hilarious.

there is no secret route. you can’t really cheat the system, so any website or company promoting these “routes” are out to get your money.

theslowclap, it’s under “OUR GUARANTEE” (in bold, underlined, red letters) here: http://www.secretroute.com/chapters.html

Is it a joke? Are they laughing at every order they get?

LOL. That was just weird.

Heh, this site has me laughing. It’s got to be a joke, I’m positive.

I bought it, this really works!

(jk)

The website is a little weird. But the book has some new insights. All the data they analyze on the site is also available on the aamc website for free at http://www.aamc.org/data/facts/start.htm. The book has good med school personal statements and some very non conventional ways to get admitted to medical school. Here is where my problems began. I have taken the mcat twice and I scored 24 the first time and a 34 the second time and even with a 34 I am only accepted to a very crappy school in Illinois, while there are so many shady students that I know from UofI who are claiming to be black or native American and getting in to top schools with much lower scores. Check out the grutter case from Michigan which is for law school but similar affirmative action programs exist for medical schools as well. http://www.debatingracialpreference.org/GRUTTER-Rates.htm
I mean demographics are more important than competence. A knew one kid who was whiter than me but had a Egyptian mother. He claimed African American and got in. Another kid got a native American tribal id card for $500. I mean all this stuff is really really shady and scandalous. But a lot of people are doing it and getting away with it. I am not racist but I think competence should not be compromised in medical school admissions.

Let me guess: that’s what the book taught you, right? To blame your failures on minorities.

… you do realize that both scores count for admissions, right?

does anyone happen to have the address where you send MO/checks?

I really need it to get a refund on my money. No confirmation email, no book, no email response.

I remember it was a PO address at Durham, NC.

Help anyone?

Thank you

BDM,

So, all MCAT scores count? This is so unlike SATs where schools allow you to combine your best score for each section. I didn’t know that.

We should create a ‘lessons learned’ thread for MCATs. It would be helpful for all premeds just starting out.

Yes. That’s one of the reasons why genusme’s comments are so ridiculous. He got a 34 the second time, sure, but he’s still got that 24 sitting on his application.

And, by the way, I don’t really believe colleges when they tell you they’ll recombine SATs for all your best subsections. I don’t think they’re being fully honest when they say that. (It would be a ridiculous thing to do. If I take the SATs twice and get 1500s both times, with 800/700 and 700/800, is that really the same as a kid who got a 1600 on the first shot? Clearly not.)
