(See updated information in post #309) Match Me: NY Resident, White Female w/ Hispanic Background, 55k ish [95% GPA; nursing, biology]

High Point?? Professional schools won’t be impressed, with a degree from High Point. It is known for teaching ‘life skills’, NOT a strong academic school.

You still have plenty of time. Attend as many large College Fairs as you can, study hard and take actual school visits. Nothing beats taking an in person tour.

You seem to be hung up on ‘prestige’. Nursing and Medical school will be based strongly on MCAT & HESI scores, strong gpa and great resume. Won’t matter where you went to undergrad, as long as you’re prepared. ‘Prestige’ is in the eye of the beholder, and isn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Your other thread said you were considering nursing. Is this instead of pre-med?

Please dont look at this thread im trying to get it taken down. It has inaccurate and outdated information that does not reflect my academic ability or my character

Ive changed my mind after taking a break from the forum (as requested) and researching the schools recommended to me, specifically BU and stony.

During the process, I met up with a neighbor who turns out to be an anesthesiologist. After multiple meetings with my guidance counselor, I decided I would look into being a CRNA (cnra??). As well as getting mental help, which improved me a lot

CRNA sounds like a great plan! You might want to add Buffalo to your list. I see you have Binghamton and SB.

Thanks! And yeah Buffalo too- i tend to get buffalo and boston mixed up

My anesthesiologist neighbor offered me a shadowing opportunity at his hospital so hoping for the best. It’s a field ive always been very interested in, but i was anxious of med school. Thats when i found out being a crna was a thing

Does your neighbor know of a CRNA for you to speak with?

He made it seem like he wanted me to watch his own work, ill be honest i kinda forgot to bring it up. He mentioned having a CRNA on staff. I was so excited about the moment- I am willing to take anything he gives me. But ill mention it again to him after the holidays.

-Something i wanted to add is that i am registered for the AP Physics Exam, but I am currently in Honors Physics. I missed the margin for AP Phyics by 2 percent in a math grade. Due to currently having a 99% in phyics as well as studying physics in my free time, the department got together and agreed they made a mistake putting me in honors, although they couldn’t move my class they agreed to let me take the exam. I get notes from some AP kids and regularly watch those ap phys class videos. Worth a shot.

Dad wants me to apply to duke but i don’t think i stand a chance

Oh- and my aunt is a nurse. She no longer practices however, but I learned a lot from her about what nursing in general is like

If you have questions about nursing and becoming a CRNA you might want to also post under nursing majors.

I honestly think the SUNY schools are an excellent option.

Does your junior year PSAT look like it will qualify you to be a national merit semifinalist.

Nevermind…I saw that your junior PSAT was 1350.

At this point, I think those SUNY schools being suggested are a good option for you.

Let us all know when you have take the SAT.

Ill try that

SUNYs are definitely options. No plane rides, and cheap for us. I earned an incredibly big scholarship to the expensive highschool I currently attend, but my twin sisters are currently applying to said school and most likely wont get that scholarship and my parents are worried about the cost. Which makes it ironic they are still putting up a battle against sunys. I brought up the impressive alumni such as people like you, and I think i will ultimately come out on top. The convincing process is just unfortunate

You mentioned Duke. Have you tried the NPC?

Take a look at UDel.

Forgive my ignorance- what is NPC? I looked it up and multiple different things came up

My dad’s mom loves duke. I honestly couldn’t even tell you why. They just love it. I know a family member went there, possibly her brother, but he passed away and I don’t think that’s enough to be considered legacy.

Net Price Calculator.

Net Price Calculator. You will find a link to it on colleges’ financial aid web sites.

For SUNYs: https://www.suny.edu/smarttrack/net-price-calculator/

For Duke: Estimate Your Aid | Karsh Office of Undergraduate Financial Support (use the Net Price Calculator, not MyIntuition, for the more-likely-to-be-accurate estimate)

Got it. Ill check it out when i get home

I have a ton of family members at Del!! They are mainly teachers. Ive been to Del for graduations when i was little, i don’t remember it that much. Del didn’t stand out to me, but ill double check it

Outside of SUNY and CUNY, you will need merit or financial aid to get to your desired cost of $55,000 (that cost was mentioned on your other thread).

Theres that many colleges over 55k per year?

Im hopeful for merit but it’s not something im banking on. I don’t think we will meet financial aid requirements considering my mom makes over 150k+ a year. Theres people that need it more than I do. That being said, maybe more like 60-70k? Ill have to check NPCs
