SEEDS mentoring

So today I got assigned a SEEDS mentor today and I was just wondering if the mentor is supposed to have been in the same type of engineering as I have, because he studied MechE and I’m studying CompE.

Doesn’t need to be same discipline - it’s only for the first year to help you acclimate. Ironically, my son is MechE and I think I remember him telling me his mentor was CompE.

I definitely don’t see the logic behind that. Mechanical engineers and computer engineers have no course overlap except ENES100 freshman year.

Actually, all first year engineering students have to take

ENES 100

PHYS 161

MATH 140 (CalcI), 141(CalcII) (or if they place out of 140 & 141, pretty much all engineers have to take 246 (DiffEq) also - MechE needs 241 which is Calc III, typically done before DiffEq)

CHEM 135

ENGL101

ORAL COMM

so there IS overlap, assuming no AP credits. The other classes specific to each engineering discipline are different, but these classes are common among all disciplines. So, not an issue for first year mentoring purposes and for recommendations about which teacher might be “better” to try to get when scheduling classes, etc.
