Seeking Advice about Internal Transfer to Mendoza

I’m an incoming freshman for Economics in the College of Arts and Letters, but after discovering more business interests my senior year, I figure that I might benefit more from the Mendoza College of Business. How realistic is an internal transfer? Does it differ for certain majors like Finance vs. Strategic Management? Thanks for any help.

During my tour and talks to the dean of mendoza admissions the transfer rate it very low. Like 5% low. With that said i got differing vibes about what a transfer looks like. I believe that if you can get upwards of a 3.95 with a relatively rigorous course load, ie math and econ (make sure to finish calc 2 and both intro micro and macro seeing that they are required for the transfer) and you should have a decent chance. Really though just accept econ as your major the back door is really being tightened and subbing in a supplemental math major is probably the best move if you can’t pull of the transfer. Also look into getting a masters in Finance in 5 years through their 4 + 1 or an MBA (both are great options if you can’t pull off the transfer. Good luck! Go Irish :shamrock:

MBA’s are valuable AFTER a few years of work experience, not in lieu of work experience. Master’s in Finance are low value without hands-on experience- which could be two solid internships, but they’d need to be very targeted in the area of interest which is hard to do as an undergrad. I’d sub out self-studying for the CFA exams and getting certified which is a much cheaper option than a Master’s in Finance. Grad school will still be there after a few years of work experience….
