Seeking Advice on the Weight of Advocacy

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful New Year!

I recently finished most of my interviews for boarding school, and I’m curious about the impact of the interviewers advocating for an application. Most of the interviews went extremely well and I think the interviewers for those schools really liked me (One was with the Director Of Admissions, does that help?) They were all pretty long, most were over 50 minutes and 3 over 1 hour plus 10-20 minutes with my parents, and there were 1-2 interviews under 30-45 minutes. For some of the schools where I think the interviewers really liked me they all said they would really try to advocate for my application and one interviewer even asked me to send her my resume so she can remember me during the admissions process, the rest asked me to reach out to faculty and to CC them so they can help me out in the process.

On another note, I emailed all the music directors and met a couple in person too. They all seemed to be excited that I was applying (Especially one school where the director was really impressed). The music directors mentioned advocating for my application during the admissions process and to contact them when I finish my apps so they can contact the admissions office immediately to put in some “good words”.

Same thing for the swim coaches. I didn’t meet any of them, but I did email them and most of them responded back (Going to follow up on the ones who didn’t) and they all seemed to be interested, mostly because I haven’t competitively/club swam in 2-3 years but I’m still consistently top 20 in the state with just being on the varsity swim team of my high school.

I’m wondering how much weight these statements might carry in the overall admissions process. Has anyone else experienced similar situations? And if so, did the positive feedback from the interviewers significantly impact your chances (if you know of course). Additionally, are there anything I should do in particular to leverage this?

I appreciate any advice that you can provide! Good luck everyone else going through the admissions process.

Don’t read too much into anything they say. I’m sure you’re a great candidate, but remember, they are also selling their product and it benefits them to make you feel special.

Don’t read into it too much. Just put your best foot forward and see which schools see you as a fit. The length of an interview and what one coach says will not guarantee you are in or out.
