I need to find a vacuum cleaner for our Small Florida condo. Desires are:
Small (skinny)
Light weight
Upright
Long cord
Can handle tile and low pile carpeting that will have sand on it (my Dyson got beat to death in another home with lots of tile)
Attachments
Do NOT want a cordless one that only runs for 15 minutes.
I know you don’t want a cordless, but I have to say for other readers who might, that I adore my Dyson stick, the pink one at Costco, often for $70 off coupon
This one uses bags… The new model can be equipped with the powerbrush, apparently for better cleaning of carpets. I have the old version, and it does a good job on wood floors.
It is not super light because it is built very well, but that is not an issue because it is easy to handle. The cord is pretty long to get around the kitchen island. It is not as powerful as my big Miele Marin but still packs some power. Will give it to kiddo to use in her new apartment.
I really like the Shark Rocket Lightweight Corded Stick Vacuum I bought at Costco. I have central vac and a top of hte line Miele but tend to use this one because it’s so easy and picks up really well.
I had to talk with Shark/Ninja customer service on 2 separate occasions-- 1 time an iron issue. They replaced it for a very nominal fee, even though it was 2 years old. The 2nd time on the vacuum, the wand release was jammed. They gave me a new vacuum to replace the one I had owned for several years ($7-$8 fee). I eventually got the wand release un-jammed. They said just keep the replacement vac. Great customer service!
We went with an Oreck that was around $400. I forget the model. No attachments, but it seemed closest to what we wanted within the price range we wanted.
Just saw your post. I have an Oreck and love it. Very light weight and easy to use. Instead of attachments there is a separate shoulder carried unit with a variety of tools; easy to use on stairs or upholstery. Probably not the gentlest on delicate rugs, but the two setting are good for all but the fragile ones. Enjoy it.
^Check Kohls website, apparently there are several of the Shark Rocket models ranging anywhere from $180 to $400. Can’t really see a big difference except probably newer models but YMMV.
Just researched Shark vacs extensively. Wanted something could get under beds etc that my Dyson can’t. Also wanted one not as heavy. Ended up with a heavier one because of better suction of two I researched. But- can remove a part to make it like a canister. No vac is perfect. The newer Shark Rotators are top rated, not too expensive (especially if you catch the right sales/coupons like I did). Research them online for details. Mine is the Shark NV725. Comparisons and a couple of good videos worth watching show up on Google.
There are model differences worth paying attention to. Weight vs suction power. Durability. Attachments. Ease of use… Bagless is the way to go.
You can read a lot of our comments but it is easy to find everything you need with a simple Google search- waste less time. It was worth it to me.
I really like the liftaway option. Most of the time my shark is in this set up. I just bought a cheap hard floor end attachment so I don’t use the heavy beater head except for the rugs (I have mostly wood floor on the ground floor). I also clean the filters etc quite often and that is very straight forward. Costco has a couple of models in stock, high and low priced.
Based on your original post I was going to recommend an Oreck- funny that’s what you picked. I’ve had one for over 15 years- lightweight and long cord - works very well.
