acme…she’s a jr. The athletic thing pushes her a little on the time frame.
Didn’t think we’d have to make some of these decisions so soon.

NorthMinnesota: wow. A junior who has to commit now for the future? I hope it works out for her and I’m sure there is a lot riding on it financially. She must be an amazing player at her sport!

I like your description of being ready to execute, kitkat. It does feel like a military operation at times. NMinn, that is awfully early for a student to have to decide. Is it a case of whether to go for the athletic scholarship at the big school, or apply as an athlete to one of the smaller schools that don’t have athletic scholarships?

The two reply cards are signed, stamped and I will have the honor of going to the post office and mailing them tomorrow. Colby it is! Now I have to order a sweatshirt and some car decals.

Congrats Mountains, although I was rooting for Skidmore! But everything sounds great on your end! Happy time!

mountains I just found out that another student from the summer program is off to Colby too.

kitkat: Execute, you say? You mean we get to inflict capital punishment if they don’t make a decision? ;)

Congrats, mountains. We visited Colby with my older D. What a pretty campus in a beautiful part of the country. Loved all those Georgian buildings.

We have spent the afternoon at the kitchen table making a list of criteria large and small and factoids useful and useless, and recording the pros and cons for each school.

Thanks for the best wishes, everyone.

I’m rooting for all your Ds and Ss (“Ss” does not look right; looks and sounds nasty).

Try D’s and S’s.

mythmom, thanks - my overtired mind completely ignored the poor apostrophe.

Mountains, here’s some . . . Colby cheese, plus crackers (from a box - I am not owlice! where are you, owlice?), and a nice red wine, to toast the decision. Hooray and congratulations.

Next round, I propose a toast in support of all those still in holding patterns.

Kitkat, I’m sure you can have at least one glass while you do the paperwork, no?

Drumroll!.. Ta-da, we have a decision! I’ve been given the envelope with the “yes, I will attend” box checked. We have a future “lady in red” (she would have looked so wonderful in seafoam green, sigh). D is going East! (:crying inconsolably: )

She decided to get out of our “West Coast bubble” and go to Wellesley! Dad is happier than anyone on the planet, for some reason. Now I have to decorate the rear view window of my car with another “W”, but not a purple one this time.

Mountains and BunsenBurner, congrats on your children’s excellent decisions. Sounds like there will be a lot of purchasing of down jackets for those heading to colder climates for college.

HarrietMW-- a toast to support those in holding patterns seems most appropriate. I have a nice bottle of red here (Italian-- doesn’t give me a headache afterwards) and am more than willing to share.

BunsenBurner, hooray! Cheers and congratulations.

I do know of a drink called a Wendy’s Drunken Snow Cone. Shall we toast her choice with some of those?

i*

I took one look at this thread this morning and realized I had fallen hopelessly behind while trying not to fall quite so hopelessly behind at work and having worked most of the weekend. It looks like I’ve missed a lot in the frenzy of decision-making (and baking) this weekend and today. Also the sadness. I was really sorry to read about Owlice’s young friend.

I missed thanking jrpar for her “Yay” who knows how many pages back. I appreciated that (as she knows) as well as the many other comments.

Congrats jym626 on your son’s decision. I always have a little extra interest in or curiosity about the kids who applied to some of the same schools as my S did, even if neither ended up at one of the overlapping schools.

And congratulations CountingDown. Your S had some really great choices, and from your description of his decision making process, he would have thrived at any of them. My S is also going to have to get used to a lot of winter, something he’s never experienced before.

And congratulations to Mountains, too. I have only known two people who’ve gone to Colby, and they’re both wonderful people and really smart.

Congratulations to BunsenBurner’s D on Wellesley. Another great school. And I don’t just say that because my grandmother was Wellesley class of 1925.

I’ll be interested to learn of wjb’s S’s decision. Hope it’s the right one.

My S went to his prom this weekend. He wore a tux we bought last year, for less than the cost of a rental. Someone asked if the pants were sold separately. When we bought his they were. Prom was so much less of a big deal for him than for his sister a few years back. He had been out of town camping with a group from school, arrived home around 5 pm, shaved, showered and dressed and was ready to go arond 5:30. We got some nice photos of him and the girlfriend and sent them on their way. I figured we had the photos uploaded to Shutterfly to share with the grandparents, other relatives and sister before he even got to dinner.

To everyone still waiting, we’re all here. Some of us are just quieter and less productive than others.

Congrats, everyone! The evil airline industry loooves our kids’ decisions!

(Hehe, I already bought a nice down jacket, not too heavy, not too light, cute but at a great discount. D and I are the same size, so I decided what the heck, if she does not need it, I’ll wear it here and look totally stylish).

S is used to downright dreadful, long winters, but we did get him a new winter jacket at the North Face outlet (amazing sale) near Colby. And I’m hoping he’ll pick up skiing again.

jollymon - Thanks; Skidmore is lovely but Colby seems to be a better fit.

Congrats on all these wonderful decisions…kitkat, I hope the FA offices get their tushes in gear pronto so you have some real data for decision making.

S is happier by the minute. One of his Mudd buddies wrote him and said “I had this one called [for Chicago] last year!” This sure feels great. Guess it’s time to get a window sticker!

I bought a small carpet and sheets today for the dorm room. Teal and black. I should probably look for jackets while there are still some on sale.

BunsenBurner: Cograts! Welcome to the seven (five) sisters family! Boy am I jealous! You are the same size as your D? We might make you model all the prom gowns!

So many kids are going to be in NE we should find some cozy ski lodge next winter. BunsenBurner – hope D leaves you the jacket.

It’s a commercial on House, which I am happily watching. But helping to cover for Owlice, an impossible job, I am leaving a pot of decaf, some Irish whiskey and sweetened whipped cream. Irish coffee – it’s pouring here. Soon it will be time for summer drinks.

Yes, I’m with Harriet, out of a box Little School Boy, Le petit ecolier, milk chocolate hazel nut cookies. Dunking in the Irish coffee gets the chocolate runny.

And anyone whose kids are not in NE will have to meet us there.

Teal and black. Classy!
