Haha. Well we can meet in a neutral town. The Middlebury Inn was the nicest place we stayed college hopping. The proprietor is wonderful, and it was actually reasonable for such a nice place.

Unless there are Midd parents in our group.

mythmom, ha-ha, I wish I could squeeze my size 10 into D’s size 6 gown. Fat chance (LOL, pun intended)! Jackets, OTOH, are sized S,M, and L, and the M ones seem to fit us both. Sigh.
D is in a happy mood, since as of today she even has a prom date.

Mountains and BunsenBurner! What great choices for your kids. Colby sounds beautiful, mountains. A prom date and a school decision all in one day–life is good for BunsenBurner’s d. I haven’t been to either school, but did have the pleasure of meeting a Wellesley admissions officer once. She was such a kind person. Kitkat, how much longer can they make you wait? Sigh.

S is thinking tomorrow he might be ready to make his replies. He got a very nice e-mail from his admissions officer at one of the schools he visited which made him feel great. It has been interesting to see the difference in marketing approaches some of the schools have taken. Some have been, “Come to our school. Here’s why it’s so great!” Others have been, “Come to our school. Here’s why we want to have you on campus!”

Wow, this thread just gets longer by the minute, and I’m having trouble keeping up with all the new information. That’s what I get for going to my office today and actually getting some work done!

Congratulations to everyone on your kids decisions - what a smart group of kids you all have!

I loved hearing about everyone’s prom dresses - especially the dominatrix with the date wearing a baby blue tux - hysterical! All the dresses sounded amazing - and I can’t get over how many girls can pull off the Audrey Hepburn look! Incredible. And all these wonderfully tall boys! D is quite petite - only 5’1", but she has a couple of good friends who are well over 6 ft - and they all look so grown up now! I can’t wait to see them all dressed up for prom - but ours isn’t until the end of June!

Oh, and Kitkat, I hope your financial aid mixups get fixed soon. That has to be so frustrating for you!

Also, has anyone seen owlice?

Teal is the official favorite color of folks who all attended a certain program in central MA, and black is a good contrast. I had been thinking on teal anyway, but when Bethievt mentioned the coral and black, I though that sounded really cool. Matched up the teal and black today, and knew I had a winner.

Congrats Mountains and Bunsen!

Other than WJB and myself - anyone else out there still up in the air?

Tonight #2 son gave me his revised pro’s and con’s list. With a school circled on the bottom. The queen of indecision, c’est moi…I said are you sure? And more rhetoric along those lines. Blah blah blah. He rolled his eyes and said he had homework and left the room. #1 son said to me, WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU ARE DOING _ JUST LET HIM MAKING A FREAKING DECISION!" (caps intentional). I did suggest we wait until tomorrow. Re how long can they make us wait … not sure. If we don’t have something by Wednesday, that will be our answer thats for certain. I will be calling and emailing again. Tomorrow. Its been 2 1/2 weeks. At this point, we are not predicting success but it could happen.

In the meantime, I pulled all the reply papers out that I could find…so we can start filling them in. And if THAT doesn’t work, THEN we execute them!!!

Wow–
We need to break this thread into a chapter book or something!

Thanks, nceph!! What is the final decision in your house???

Change of subject-- we had to come up with a yearbook quote for S#1 and a quote for the last newspaper for s#2. We came up with some trite, overused ones, but had to send them in. Anyone have any favorites they’d like to share?

My favorite is “The perfect is the enemy of the good.” A good reminder for us perfectionists.

H’s is (and he needs hie) “God is in the details.” That’s Corbusier

D used Emily Dickinson: “I’m nobody who are you? Are you nobody too?”

S used an elegant Kurt Vonnegut quote, which was fitting because Vonnegut had just passed away.

His favorite quote is John Lennon, “It’s all in the mind.”

And then there’s S - asked him what quote he chose and he said he does not recall; too long ago (September last year is “too long ago” for these young minds).

S announced yesterday that he has a date for the prom (what happened to the stag plan?) and they are going as Nintendo characters. All dressed up but his tux will show hints of who the character is - color of the vest, hat, and boots (argh). Sorry, can’t remember the character.

My son’s quote: “We had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.” Samuel Clemens

Those black sheets are very forgiving–though I’m quite sure S does wash them–and teal sounds like a great companion color!

D’s quote was from Dwight on “the Office”: “Whenever I’m about to do something, I think ‘would an idiot do that?’ And if they would, I do NOT do that thing.”

kitkat82-- I hope you get the info you are waiting for (and I hope the news is good) today.

It’s still damp here today, so I’m cooking up a batch of steel-cut Irish oatmeal to fortify me for the day. I’ll make extra if anyone else needs a bowl.

Thanks, everyone, but to clarify- what inspirational quote did YOU put in an ad (or whatever) as a message to your kid? something like— “Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb… you might enjoy the view” (we used something like that as a msg to older s 4 yrs ago)

Oops, jym–I guess the pirate one doesn’t exactly fill the bill!

LOL bethievt!! I kinda liked it! :D

jym626-- we put in a John Lennon quote.
Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans.

How about a paraphrase from the same source (Mark Twain)–my Dad said this to each of us when we went off to college–“Don’t let college get in the way of your education!”

I love the pirate quote. Also love the Dwight quote. I expect S1 will want to use his favorite Dwight quote, “Am I happy about the way things turned out? Well, happy’s such an ugly word.” Though it doesn’t work as well without Dwight’s crackpot smile.

For the parent ad, we did something that wasn’t exactly fresh and new, but was definitely true to our D. We used photos of her doing various daredevil things (climbing a tall tree at 3, climbing rock walls at 6, doing ropes courses at 10 and 13, and finally hang gliding at 16*), arranged them in ascending order (diagonally up the half-page), and wrote something like this (although I’m afraid I don’t remember the exact words): Never stop reaching higher - we’re behind you all the way.

And good morning all! The oatmeal smells delicious, acme. And I’m loving all this happy news about college choices and proms.

*D is a fall birthday so this was more recent at the time than it sounds.

jym,

I used Dr. Seuss’ lines with a toddler picture of him, head to toe with no shoes on (yep, with his approval):
