Dear Friends,
I live in San Jose and was looking for advice form the forum regarding internship options during the upcoming summer for my daughter. She is in eleventh grade and is interested in majoring in Business Management.
Please suggest internship options for her. I am okay with the internship option not being a paid internship. I am more interested in an internship that will boost her chances to get admitted to UCs or other good public/private colleges.
Thanks in advance,
Tarun
Internships for high school students are generally not a very useful experience. Very few businesses will actually give a high school student just there for the summer much responsibility. An “internship” is probably no better than a “summer job” in terms of business experience.
She should work at a part-time job during her summer break. It is a very good extra-curricular activity to list. It would be a better business “internship” since it shows the universities that the student is working to help fund her education; which is viewed very favorably.
She’s not considered an adult, so a lot of companies would be “unwilling” to take a “junior” as an intern; liability concerns, noted through their insurance companies, might consider it a risk to have a “minor” in a business establishment.
