My MIL was here on Valentines, so we decided to watch a movie. Her, with Joaquin Phoenix. My son picked it because he said it was trending as one of the most watched movies for Valentines.
I found it interesting, especially now with all the AI news. I found it both sad and hopeful.
My MIL hated it, obviously, asking my kid why he picked pornography
A timely documentary is the one made about Navalny a couple of years ago. It’s a 90 minute film, and it’s a fascinating glimpse of his life. Navalny is smart, brave, and hilarious. It will make you even sadder, though, that Putin found a way to murder him.
I too highly recommend this documentary.
I’m halfway through The Holdovers. Excellent.
We liked Mr Holmes (Prime, maybe also Netflix). It’s about a quite elderly Sherlock. Slow moving and sweet… but with some detective mystery too. You’ll likely recognize some of the actors in it.
I met a friend for American Fiction this afternoon. I suspected that I would like it, but I absolutely loved it. The writing & acting are both superb. I enjoyed Jeffrey Wright & Tracey Ellis Ross. I think I hadn’t really paid attention to the cast in promotions earlier this year, so Sterling K. Brown was a delightful surprise and SO good!
I finally watched Rustin. I thought it was a strong film. I also watched American Symphony and loved it. I think the production company is doing a fine job so far!
Needed an uplifting movie last night. Mr. B pulled a DVD out of our old collection. The World’s Fastest Indian was just as good as the first time we watched it.
Oh, we need to watch that! Long ago my Dad rode an Indian motorcycle. Looks like it is available on Prime

The Quiet Girl on Hulu (set in Ireland - subtitles required) -highly recommend.
Have any of you seen “Poor Things”? Sounds intriguing.
We just watched this too. I enjoyed it but also thought it was not sure if it was a satire or a family movie or a comment on the writing life. Regardless, it was definitely worth watching.
D went to see that with son’s girlfriend–they were both interested and he had no interest whatsoever. After D described the film to us, ummmm, no thanks. Sounds way too weird.
It is a strange movie. Artsy. I hated the beginning so much I wanted to leave the theater. But it grew on me. By the end, it was sweet.
The thing I hated the most was the music. It was so loud and dissonant. It fit the movie perfectly. But it put me completely on edge - which may have been the point - but I’m noise sensitive and it was just awful for me.
The “vigorous jumping” OTOH was hilarious.
We enjoyed “The Greatest Night in Pop” on Netflix.
We just saw the second Dune movie. Liked it a lot. Twists and turns that weren’t expected. Long, but the time went by quickly. Glad we’re seeing it against next week, because there were some things we missed.
We watched “Napoleon” on Apple+ (free now, supposedly $29 previously?). It had some interesting history, a bit of romance/drama. And way too many/gory battle scenes for me. My husband enjoyed it more. Warning - 2hrs 40min.
Have we discussed PAST LIVES here? What a delightful, small, charming movie. We really enjoyed it.
DH and I just watched Past Lives yesterday and also really enjoyed it!
Loved Past Lives! Poetic (what’s unspoken as significant as what is said…)
