My brother’s been buying ‘senior’ tickets since he was about 45. Rarely to the 16 year olds selling the tickets know. Or care.
I have been buying Rush tickets to the theater for years, you had to be 62 and I was only 60, but with my older friends. I handed the ticket seller my DL and they barely glanced at it - and probably couldn’t do the math anyway. Or didn’t care.
Looking forward to seeing Hamnet, a new movie based on the novel by Maggie O’Farrell. Jessie Buckley plays Shakespeare’s wife, Anne. She’s so good, I’d put this movie at the top of my list just to watch her.
Hamnet was one of the first books I read once retired (during Covid). After dozens more books per year, the emotions of it are still well remembered. (It is quite sad. I passed on to a friend. She said it was very good…. but requested I stick to more upbeat book suggestions for her in the future.)
I have been planning to see Hamnet since I saw the preview when I went to the Downton Abbey movie. My debate now is whether to go alone or with a friend. When I was running errands on Monday, I heard an NPR discussion that said it was a three box of Kleenex kind of movie. I don’t mind a good cry, but I kind of prefer to do it without anyone else looking at me and wondering why I am such a blubbering mess. Probably alone is best for me.
We are going to Wicked II today. In preparation, we watched the first movie last night with my know it all (she really does) daughter telling us all the meaning behind the characters and the actors. It really made a difference and now I think I can appreciate part II (other than the costumes, which I love and always appreciate).
We just saw Wicked For Good. I kept hearing and reading that it wasn’t as good as the first one, but I completely disagree. I enjoyed it much more than the first movie.
I also enjoyed Wicked for Good more, but 1. I only saw the first one on TV and 2. My daughter sat with me and rewatched #1 and explained who all the people represented (from the book) and that made #2 movie a lot easier to understand.
I thought Adam Sandler did a great job. I always like George Clooney but once again he seems to be playing George Clooney. It was entertaining. I’d give it a 7 so not too far off from the IMDB 6.6.
We watched the newest Knives Out story, Wake Up Dead Man, last night. We both really liked it. Clever writing, so many fine actors, and overall really smart.
I liked Jay Kelly well enough; also not normally an Adam Sandler fan but he was fine in this. I did wonder how much George Clooney drew from real life - perhaps not his but people he knew. It was somewhat of a fable, and perhaps a little bit vanity project.
The Beast in Me A famous author is pulled into a twisted mind game with her rich, powerful new neighbor — who might be a murderer. It’s on Netflix and very riveting.
I saw Ella McCay this afternoon. It was okay - enjoyable, not great. I wouldn’t encourage people to go give their money for a ticket, but it’s worth giving your time to watch it when it comes to streaming. It reminded me of Dave a little and I loved Jamie Lee Curtis.
