Seen Any Good Movies Lately?

Red Sparrow got such terrible reviews I am not touching it. Thanks for the violence warning… one more reason to avoid it for me.

Watched Breathe tonight. Interesting mix of sad and inspirational. I like Andrew Garfield in most anything.

@psychmomma — did you see Never Let Me Go? Andrew Garfield is in that. Good movie.

Sorry in advance if this has been posted

In Breathe…Claire Foy’s character was relentless and determined.

Thanks to those who mentioned “cab to Darwin” enjoyed that !

Another recommendation for those who liked Last Cab to Darwin is Tracks (2014) with Adam Driver. Available on Netflix.

Death Wish is very, very…very ,very violent.
Remake of the Charles Bronson classic with Bruce Willis.

@Classof2015 - yes, I did. That was another good, yet disturbing, movie. Have you seen 99 Homes? I recommend it, another dramatic AG movie.

@psychmomma – no haven’t seen 99 Homes – thanks for recommending it!

I just got the original Blade Runner from the library. I wanted to see it before the new one.

Thoroughbred will be in your cineplex for a blink.
Teens acting badly with some violence.

Saw Game Night. It was light, entertaining. It could have tipped over to utter slapstick and stupid, but it didn’t. I thought it was funny with some good surprises. I’m glad I only paid matinee price, it’s a good one to wait for DVD, too. I think it’s worth a watch.

@SnLMom thanks for suggesting Tracks. I enjoyed that, too, as I Did “last cab to Darwin”
I’m reading April 1st next Cc book selection- The Dry, by Jane Harper, set in Australia. Those two movies help me hear the dialog in the book, with an Aussie accent.

Side note, when I watched Tracks, I kept thinking about Wild, Cheryl Strayed’s book, also someone who lost their mother at young age, and went on a long trek in search of peace. I wonder if Robyn Davidson’s journey inspired her.

Also, Bill Bryson’s " in a sunburned Country" was a great intro into that vast, wonderful continent!

Thanks to all for the many good movie suggestions

Finally saw the Black Panther. Too much fighting, but I really liked the women characters, they seemed much more distinctive than the guys. As the seven year old kid sitting next to us. “Good movie with a good message.”

DH and I just saw Annihilation this afternoon. If you like sci-fi, I highly recommend it. It reminded me of Arrival in some ways, very cerebral and thoughtful, although more horrifying, with some harrowing, gory scenes. It’s really hard to describe, but I liked how it was centered on a team of women, with a strong performance by Natalie Portman and a good supporting cast. It was directed and written by Alex Garland, who previously directed Ex Machina.

We finally saw The Darkest Hour last night and it was great. Oldman definitely deserved that Oscar!

DH and I also watched Darkest Hour last night on DVD. It really was a good movie and I agree that Gary Oldman really deserved the Oscar for Best Actor! He was amazing. I also really liked Kristin Scott Thomas as his wife.

I know this is a thread for “good” movies - but I just want to comment that I went to see Phantom Thread last night and did not like it at all. Definite waste of 2 hours. :frowning: I can see how the movie might appeal to some people with art house tastes … but for me it just went wrong in about every way possible.

Call Me By Your Name. Wow! Just excellent and beautiful on every level, acting, script, music, cinematography…
