Segundo North

ive pretty much read all the info available on the uc davis website concerning the resident halls in segundo north. are their any disadvantages or advantages that someone may know of?

thanks! =]

I’ll speak of the disadvantages since you’ll most likely hear only of the advantages:

 1. There is only one kitchen for all three buildings of Segundo North (SegNo), which is located in Thompson Hall.
 2. The lounges are set up in a way that it is extremely easy to be documented for noise violation
 3. The carpets are dirty, so you better learn how to clean them!
 4. Only one laundry room per building located on the first floor. In Ryerson Hall, you’re given a laundry room and kitchen on each floor… very convenient!

Other than that, it’s a nice place to live. Be happy if you received any of the Segundo towers (Ryerson, Malcolm, Bixby, Gilmore) or SegNo

The Segundo North dorms are the most luxurious of all the dorms on campus. Chances are you won’t get into them because a lot of the rooms are reserved for special programs, like the Integrated Studies Honors Program.

I heard Segundo North is all triples? Is this true?

It was last year when there was an influx of admitted students. I am pretty sure that it has returned back to doubles.

I’ve heard that Tercero is better than Segundo because the rooms are slightly larger and better noise reduction.

Segundo North has lots of noise from Russell street, and all the special themes make it seem rather aloof.

Another negative not mentioned here are the elevators for five stories. It gets really old.

I actually do prefer Tercero South’s rooms over Segundo North. The horrible part of Tercero South is that the cows are directly across the street. Sometimes it smells SO bad. It’s pretty much the luck of the draw to get one of the newer Segundo buildings (including the Segundo towers Ryerson, Malcom, Bixby, Gilmore). Don’t forget that you may be assigned Regan hall which isn’t bad, but are the old buildings of Segundo.

Is it possible to request a specific hall? For example, like Thompson hall or Bixby hall, etc…

Also, does anyone have any idea when the housing information is going to be mailed?

You do your housing stuff online. I’m pretty sure you can access it as soon as you fill out the SIR.

I can’t do anything online.

I heard Early May for the housing packets.

I know there was a link for it on Friday when my son filled out his SIR, but he wasn’t in the mood to fill it out. It was in the lower left corner. Does it not work yet? You can fill the whole thing out and then change it as much as you want right up until the deadline which I think is in late July.

ahh. thanks collegemom16!

I don’t have anything in the lower left corner. The housing site says that there should be a link that says “housing application request” but I don’t have that.

I think the only things I haven’t done yet is fill out the Hep. B thing, turn in all the fin aid papers, and transcripts. Could this be the reason?

I’m not sure. You might want to email them on Monday and ask.

i think because they didn’t mail packets out yet. i don’t have it either

But collegemom16’s son does have the button, and it seems like chocolatecake27 has it too.

hmm idk. maybe just minor error. probably no big deal.

is it a good idea to request theme based dorms?
is tercero the only one w/theme based halls?

Is there anyone else who doesn’t have the housing request link?
