Segway for college?

I was thinking of getting one; sounds like an awesome way to get from class to class =]

What do you guys think? Does anyone use segways in college?

I wouldn’t do it…

Sounds like fun until your Segway is a $6,000 broken heap of metal courtesy of any one of the myriad drunk people in your building. Where would you keep it, anyway?

Heh, good one.

At least, I hope this thread is a joke.

I wouldn’t

ya there are a million reasons you shouldnt get one. its expensive, it will get stolen/damaged, everyones gonna be lookin at u funny, everyones gonna want to ride it…the list goes on and on

Nah. Get a bike instead. You’ll get some exercise and have fun in the process.

I keep on thinking of the White and Nerdy song…

rollin on my segwey… lookin at me thinkin i’m so white and nerdy…

hehe

Is this a joke or are you being serious lol? Why don’t you try the old fashion thing out and walk to class. It’s the way to go. Also, where would you put it when you got to the building? Lock it up to the bike rack?

That made me go and find the video. And watch it. And it reminded me of how much I love it. Thank you!

Sweet ■■■■■ thread.

This is a joke, right? lol

I suppose it’s better than the guy on my campus who used a unicycle. I always wanted to get a stick and jam it in his wheel…I don’t think that would do much to a segway.

If there were such a person on my campus, I’d probably admire their moxie too much to be irritated by them, heh.

A Segway is actually considered a type of motorcycle in California–it falls under motorcycle insurance, just like ATVs and snowmobiles (and you’ll need to insure it). Most campuses do not allow motorized vehicles (including motorcycles, mopeds, and those motorized stand-up scooters) to be driven in pedestrian areas–which means you would have to use the Segway on the road. Do you have lots of stairs on campus? Try hauling it up those–I don’t think so.

A better solution is to invest in a good pair of walking shoes and get out and walk. It’ll keep you fit, too!

Don’t do this…wait, no do. It’ll make you a lot of friends. :)

Someone had one at freshman orientation (over three years ago). I never saw it again after that first week.

When I tool a tour of MIT I think I saw one there. I believe it was rather funny.
