I bought WashMom a Roomba for Christmas. Don’t worry for my health, she also received some music and a set of Fiestaware dishes, which she asked for.

The Roomba is SO cool. I don’t know how they build it and distribute it for that price. There is a ton of R&D in that little box. The boys and I know that we could build and program one ourselves after four years in robotics, but no way we could do it for anything like that much money. I charged it before wrapping it so we were able to put her to work this morning. The hall and family room look very nice. (WashMom already named her “Rosie” after the robotic maid in The Jetsons. Do all Roombas get names?)

No roomba here as house lacks carpet (almost).
I got a BlackBerry, thankfully my son also has one so he is mine “one button assist guy”.
I call it StrawBerry, cause its red :-)

I got just about everything North Face makes, so no excuses about going out to run or walk the dog in cold weather! Also- running and yoga necklaces.
My daughter gave us a bound book of their engagement photos inscribed “This book is given to our parents with thanks for their undying support and love.” How cool is that? Gift from WildChild hasn’t arrived yet.

My younger D bought me a bag at a local alternative holiday fair she worked at.
( she bought 1/2 a goat as well)
this bag is
It’ll be just the thing to wear when the Dalai Lama comes to Seattle next spring.
I asked my older daughter who is a great writer to share a memory from her childhood. She bought me a beautiful journal but is still working on her memory.

i definitely made out really well this year! my favorites, though, are a pair of true religion jeans, ugg moccasins (absolutely luxurious), a new purse (funny how i didn’t even really realize i don’t have one), and a little coffee maker because i’m just starting to like coffee.

to all the CC moms out there: if you have $100 “lying around” and really want to indulge…i’d highly recommend ugg mocs! they’re amazing for inside the house and have just enough soles to survive outside too. plus, you can wear them with or without socks and theyre just so comfy!

much better than the giant boots, which are also awesome, but way too warm.

and i plan on using my christmas money to buy myself some snowboard boots for my ski trip coming up. man, i love the holidays :)

merry christmas! -kristin

ps: i’m the first kid to go off to college, so i got my mom a Mizzou hat for christmas and added topaz (think: gold) rhinestones to the “mizzou” part of the hat. she LOVES it and it wasn’t terribly expensive. perhaps a fun crafty idea for you too? just a thought!

Rosie, our Roomba, turns out to be pretty interesting to watch (if you’re a nerd). The first time we turned her loose on the bedroom she disappeared under the bed and didn’t reappear for 15 minutes. The carpet under the center of our bed has never been cleaner. TallSon treats it like a new puppy. The poor kid doesn’t have a dog, but he does have a robot vacuum cleaner.

OK - all these nights I thought hubby was working late, he was at his buddy’s workshop handcrafting a cherry wood mantle for our bedroom fireplace - what a great Christmas surprise!!! And the complete Calvin & Hobbes topped it off - he done good!

Hmmmm I have often thought a roomba or scooba would be a dandy thing to have because my dog (a border collie) sheds HORRIBLY! I just finished getting up piles and piles of hair which will be back within a couple of days.

And the thingey might keep the pup company during the day if I am out for a bit??

I have two Roombas. I sent one to be repaired after it tried to eat fringe… and then bought another one while it was gone because I really hate vacuuming.

They do way better on hardwood/stone than they do on carpet.

I have two dogs–poodles that don’t shed but do track stuff in on their paws–and two cats who shed all the time. Love the roombas. I have them do the entry areas pretty much every day.

I also find that if I run them right after I vacuum, they STILL pick up dirt and grit that I didn’t see. They’re very thorough.

My roombas do not have names. I address them as “hey you” as in “hey you, come over here and pick up this dirt.”

My two d’s indulged me with a gift certificate for a massage (yes!), a fuchsia metallic evening clutch, some silver Snowjoggers (I admired the ones oldest D has) – warm and cozy on blustery LA days, even with no snow in sight. Oldest D also made a book of photos depicting favorite moments from her freshman fall – I’ll keep it forever!

I got my wife a 10 day trip to Hawaii–over next Christmas. She hates the rain around this time of year and has zero Christmas spirit. I’m a big fan of the holiday and being around a Grinch ruins it for both of us. But she LOVES Hawaii.
I got a new pair of driving shoes in Badger red. Just need the Porsche GT-3 to go with it now. I came very close over the weekend but the thought of a community property divorce drove me back from the abyss.

I can officially brag now that a certain gift has been used. Got H The Big Green Egg smoker/grill. Just ate our first meal off of it… chicken. I grew up in Texas, and know good BBQ - this was about the best smoked chicken I’ve ever had. We’re already planning for ribs and pulled pork for the next experiments.
