Self-studying Question

Some people on this board claim that self-studying is better than taking the class because you self-report your scores. Can someone explain to me why this is better?

Because if you do badly on a self-studied test, it looks like nothing happened.
If you do badly on a test that you took the class for, it looks like you didn’t learn anything in class and either you’re a slacker or your class was too easy to be on AP level.

I think self-studying is best when you can’t take the class, though. No point having the class available and not taking it, as it looks like you didn’t take the most rigorous curriculum.

Ahhh…okay I get it.
