I have a couple of weddings and other events coming up that require dresses. As it seems like panty hose are out (and can’t really be worn with open toe shoes), and I hate to show my legs bare, do any of you use self tanner? And what do you recommend? I am not sure I want to do a spray tan but may consider. Thanks!
I’ve been reading a lot of self tanners and the correct way to apply.
My D sent me St. Tropaz in the medium shade with a tanning mit. It works well and applies with a tint so you can see where you’ve applied it. I also went out and bought L’Oréal self tan towelettes from the drug store and they were really easy.
Make sure you prep your skin whatever you do. Exfoliating and moisturizing. I put it on at night, I’m glad to wash off that smell in the morning
My kid uses the jergens or the equate version, it looks great as long as you do the prep.
I am a self tanner expert after my years of all star cheer!!! LOL St. Tropez is the go to, but now most of them have gotten really good. Jergens is good for a lighter, more natural look. If you only plan to do it once, for around $35 by me you can get a professional to do it and be in and out in 10 min!
I’ve also used St. Tropez with good results. It needs to be done ahead of time because the color darkens over a couple hours as I recall. And it is also good to buy their application mitt.
I’ve also had good results with Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs. It’s ready to go in 5 minutes so great for using right before going out. It’s also much much cheaper than St. Tropez and is available at stores like Target and CVS.
I’d just get a spray tan at a good salon - ask around to find one in your area. It takes 10 minutes and the results are far more even and natural than do it yourself. Exfoliate well beforehand and apply plenty of moisturizer to elbows, knees, between fingers and toes, etc. I go to a place that offers light, medium, and dark - I get the medium, which gives me a nice glow and takes the edge off my winter pallor.
@Gourmetmom how long does the spray last? Does it stain clothes, and can you swim with it without it fading quickly?
@katliamom, with the spray tan you can get different options on colors as @Gourtmetmom said as well as accelerator IIRC. They usually last about 5 days, but I have never tried to swim after getting one. The most important thing is to exfoliate VERY well and to follow the
directions of the spa attendant, especially putting on the moisturizer to cover up areas that tend to get darker as @Gourmetmom also mentioned. The first time I got one I didn’t use the hand towel to blend in everything on my arms and had horrible streaks. If you can, I would strongly recommend doing a test run.
