<p>I JUST got a smartphone. My dumb phone couldn’t send pics anywhere. The closest I ever got to a selfie were pics of the inside of my pocket. Do those count?</p>
<p>We have a theory on why there are so many selfies: You might hand your point-and-shoot camera to a stranger to take a picture of you, but not your smartphone.</p>
<p>Really? At events that I’m at (like races, or even just touring) people hand their smartphones to others to take pictures all the time. It seems that the ability to know how to use the camera on an iPhone is now becoming universal.</p>

<p>Right. I wasn’t going to hand my iPhone to stranger on a bridge in Paris. So we took a selfie.</p>
