For those of you that don’t know, kombucha is a type of fermented tea that takes around 10-14 days to brew at home. At the store, a 16 oz. bottle costs anywhere from $2.50 to over $4.00. I make it at home by the gallon and my family drinks it. In college, there’s no way I can drink a whole gallon by the time the next batch will be done. I was thinking about posting a sign on my dorm door to try to sell it. Something like $1.50 for 10 oz. or $2.00 for 20. For any kombucha lovers out there, do you think this is a good deal? Would people buy it? I think it could be fun and stuff but people also might think it’s weird.

For a minute I thought that kombucha was a new slang term for weed. Seems pretty innovative what you say though, so go for it. Unless you are self conscious because people might think it’s weird.

Does the college’s housing policy allow you to operate a business out of your room?

There are also almost surely local health codes governing the selling of food and beverages.

I doubt there’s a legal way for you to do this.

I’d be cautious because of what Sikorsky said. In my housing contract it states that residents aren’t allowed to run a business out of their dorm rooms.

I wouldn’t really consider this a business though. If I gave it away would that be fine?

Why not just not start making a new pitcher until you start running low…?

It can mess up the process if the culture isn’t in use.
