If I’m at say Amherst College and wanted to study for half a year at UC Santa Cruz or any other UC sometime during my four years, would that be possible?

What system are the UCs on, I’m pretty sure it’s not semester?

Can you take semester (or whatever it may be) abroad at UCs like you may do with other liberal arts schools?

It may sound crazy, being able to attend one of the best schools in the country already, but taking classes at Santa Cruz is something I’ve always wanted to do since I lived there.

uc’s are on the quarter system, with the exception of berkeley which is a semester school :). Typically, fall quarter ends about the same time as fall semester at semester schools (give or take a week), so as long as you’re looking at the first session you should be fine. One problem is the number of courses. One thing to keep in mind - a quarter simply takes a semester and packs it into 5 fewer weeks, we take fewer classes (4 3q instead of 52s, etc), so you may be behind a few classes if you do a quarter and then a semester.

i’m not sure… if so, please post the link cuz that’d be really interesting. i do know that students from OTHER UC’s can do an exchange semester/quarter at another UC (similar to how you described you can do exchanges at other LAC’s).

if so, i would advise you to do the second half of the academic calendar. that is, if you are on a spring semester at your home college (january to may), i would replace that instead with TWO quarters at the UC’s (january to june) IF that is possible, since you would actually be earning more credit and thus won’t fall behind. on the other hand, you would end up taking fewer credits and fall behind if you exchanged one fall semester into a fall quarter.
