"Semi-Transfer" Student - Rescind?

I’m sort of in a strange situation right now (hence the strange title of this post). Basically, this year was supposed to be my high school senior year but I opted out and went to USC (in Los Angeles) through their early entrance program. At that point I had not yet graduated from high school because I was missing a senior-level English class.

First semester at USC I took an English class which counted towards my high school degree. At the time I applied to UChicago, I was still not a high school graduate and I was technically taking dual-credit, so I was told to apply as a freshman. I did, got in, and committed. Subsequently when the semester was over, my high school declared me a graduate.

So the thing is, right now my second semester grades at USC are questionable. I probably will have a C in one class (or maybe even two, gah). But since I already graduated from high school, will these grades make me be in danger of getting rescinded EVEN IF I FAILED? (I’ll try not to, haha.) I don’t even think I have to report them. Also, they are courses at a quality university. And I do have a reason for the dip in grades (first semester grades at USC were fairly decent): this semester I work 20 hours a week and got an editorial position at one of our papers. What do you think? Should I be worried?

Are you transferring as a Sophmore or a Freshman?

Class standings are arbitrary in college. It all depends on the number of units you have and when you want to graduate. So, I could be either. Although I’ll call myself a freshman for now.

I doubt that the Cs will merit a rescission. One is probably fine, two will probably raise some eyebrows. You might be asked to write a letter explaining the cause of the poor grades.

Keep your chin up and you’ll be fine! Good luck!
