Senate Page Application Weight in Highly Selective Admissions

Hey everyone, I just found out that I am a finalist for a Senate Page Position for fall 2019. I know that I may not even get the position, but I am conflicted on whether or not to take it if I have an offer. I am taking 5 AP classes next year and am in leadership positions in multiple clubs. I am worried that being in DC for a semester will affect my ability to take as many AP classes and that I won’t get as many leadership positions for senior year. In addition, I already have a lot of important political internships on my resume so I’m not sure if this program will add anything to my future college application. I am interested in almost exclusively Ivy Leavue universities too. So I would really appreciate opinions on whether or not I should take the position if it is offered and on how much the Page Position is respected in Ivy League admissions. Thanks!

It would not be a tip for ivy admissions, although it would be a great experience and would definitely demonstrate a strong interest in politics and government.

Unless things have changed, pages are the equivalent of owls in Harry Potter’s wizarding world, lots of “step and fetch”. It is a fun, service-light to our country, and you will see a lot of cool places in the capitol. However, I think it is something you do because you want to (or to get a politics-and-government type of resume started), not so much because it impresses colleges.

Just another EC

It’s a legit consideration, if you are so interested in politics. But you’ve got to realize getting into a highly selective (or most selective) is more than best at this, better than that, most leader titles or biggest opportunities. Nor having the most AP.

Take a step back and figure a little more about what your targets want to see. It’s not superficial glory. Make your decision based on what grows you.pick the right college targets.
