Sending a small amt of money to Japan...options?

We just returned from a wonderful vacation but unfortunately, I left my Kindle in my hotel room in Japan. The hotel management did locate it, but would like me to deposit 1500 Yen shipping charges to their bank account. The charges are no problem (it’s only about $20) but I am not finding any good way of sending this from here in the US. Bank wire transfer fees are upward of $35 which seems a bit ridiculous for the amount being sent. The hotel will not accept a credit card transaction for this. With so many online options these days, do any of you know of a more economical way to send this money? The only company I know of is xoom.com and they don’t have Japan listed as one of the countries they serve.

Can you mail them a $20 bill?

Are they going to use Fedex? Can you just give them your Fedex account number?

Or mail them 1500 Yen cash. I sent cash to England once to secure lodging at a B & B. Easiest and cheapest way was to change the money here and mail it.

They just gave me a Japanese bank name and account number where I am to deposit the money. I will ask them about these are options.

For that much, its not profitable to wire transfer to the bank account. JUst send them a US $20 bill would be the easiest.

Does the Japanese bank have an affiliate in the US? Perhaps you can go to the US affiliate and deposit the money there.

For example, Bank of Tokyo / Mitsubishi UFJ has a subsidiary called Union Bank with branches in California.

ucb,

I have accounts in UBC for 15 years and they do not exchange currency AND wire transfer for nothing, actually they charge MORE… Banks in Japan is just another Japanese Bank.

what about paypal? Is there anyway you can set something like that up with them?

Can you use something like Western Union?
