My Macbook Air has a problem with sticky keys and letters that repeat unexpectedly. Apple has a keyboard service program with free service and replacement; sounds like the keyboard, trim around the keyboard and battery will all be replaced free of charge; at least that is what I was told by the genius, I thought it was just the keyboard. Unfortunately, the Apple Store has to send the laptop out for repair; turn around time will be about 7 days.
I am sure I could live without my laptop for a week; maybe I would do something constructive while it is gone! While I don’t have another computer at home to use, I do have my iPhone and iPad. While any saved documents are only on my computer, again, I am sure I can survive. My concern is with my data on my computer; do I need to worry about the repair person accessing my information? They do not need my login or password, but I am sure these people know how to retrieve my information. Of course I will have everything backed up, so not worried about my information being lost; just compromised. I do have all my websites, as well as some bank and credit card accounts passwords saved. While not the smartest idea, my computer rarely leaves the house; only when I travel, and then I am more than anal about watching it.
While I currently can live with the keyboard the way it is, I would like to get it repaired while it is free. The genius said it could get worst, but it might not.
After checking with all authorized Apple service locations, they all stated they send off the laptop to Apple for replacement. I will wait a bit longer to send it in; I have a fear of Apple closing again and my computer being held there for weeks. As long as I proofread what I type, and delete the double letters, I am good for a while!
@hrh19 Similar to my typing! It is mostly the left side of the keyboard that types multiple letters, but it happens to others at times. My left shift key will stick one day and work the next. Isn’t it frustrating to have to retype half of what you type?
@DadTwoGirls Yep, I back up regularly, and did so again before going for my appointment at Apple. I know all my passwords, I just save them to avoid typing each time! I was under the impression that they would repair onsite when I talked with Apple by phone, so was waiting until they opened the stores back up in my area. Happened to look online earlier this week, and found an appointment, so went in. Oh well, I will find a week that I can do without and send it on. Hopefully it won’t take too long.
@jpga13 I was told Houston or Memphis. I live closer to Memphis, so assumed that is where it would go. I will actually be in Austin next week for GD care, maybe I should make an appointment at the Apple store there and see what they say.
Yes, Memphis is a repair center also. You can call the store there and they should be able to pull up the case number and tell you if they can repair at the store but it probably has to go to a repair center.
