I’m seeing conflicting guidance on where the dual enrollment college transcript should be sent to each college as part of the application process. For context, my student has 56 credits entering 12th earned through dual enrollment. Her HS transcript does not denote any dual enrollment (even the ones taken directly through her HS - they are just recorded with the HS course name; AP Lang, Precalculus etc. and level). 33 credits were taken through the HS and 23 directly through the college but all 56 credits are on her college transcript. I know normally colleges don’t want a transcript from other colleges for transfer credit under after they are admitted and to evaluate transfer credits. Here, even though she input her college coursework on her STAR, not all of her schools use that I believe. Should she also send the college transcript across so that the courses and grades earned on her 56 credits can be fully evaluated? She also has a 3.65 GPA at the college across the credits which I think strengthens her application.

Colleges will need to evaluate all coursework with official grades that count towards the high school diploma.
If i understand your Q correctly, all 33 credits taken at the HS satisfy her HS diploma requirements; and just also double dip by counting as college credits. None of the 23 credits earned directly through the college count for anything back towards her HS diploma. I wish our HS credited or noted the dual enrollment coursework on the hs transcript but they do not, although they do use a 2% grade “weighted” bump to any dual enrolled course at the hs.
EX) Algebra II Accelerated - 94 appears on her 10th grade HS transcript and MAT120 College Algebra A- appears on her college transcript for the same semester but HS transcript makes no mention of it being d/e (although she noted that level in her STAR grade input for the HS level)
You’ll need to submit all official transcripts to all colleges: high school and college. I’m sure that colleges deal with this type of situation every year. Especially since grades are not posted on the official high school transcript for the 33 credits, only on the college transcript. Although colleges will see the additional 23 credits, there is no way of knowing which colleges will consider these credits for the purpose of rendering an admissions decision and which ones won’t. I would check with each and every college prior to submitting applications. You can also phone or e-mail the admissions office regarding dual enrollment transcripts for college admissions and transfer credit.
Thanks. I agree and was thinking she should err on the side of caution and send them through the clearinghouse so that they could be considered if needed and disregarded if not. The in progress college transcript shows all 56 credits, and she’ll finish somewhere around 68 credits with the courses she’ll take in 12th
Right, but she has the right to know whether all 56 credits will be part of the transcript evaluation for college admission. She or her parents are paying for these applications & transcripts. This policy could be one policy for one college & a different policy for another. Don’t just process the transcripts through the clearinghouse. She should seek this information out!
That is incorrect. Universities require official transcripts for all post-secondary coursework you’ve taken, sent alongside your high school transcript—typically at the time of application, though some institutions only require them upon enrollment.
This requirement applies across the board: it makes no difference whether the courses were dual enrollment, whether your high school granted credit, how well or poorly you performed, or whether you intend to request transfer credit. All college-level coursework must be officially disclosed.
What needs to be done for transfer credit will vary by university and need not be addressed now.

Then she had to submit the syllabi for each of the courses she took to the school where she matriculated to see if they would count them for college credit. She did not receive a decision about that until two weeks before classes started.

Some colleges will also request names of textbooks used in dual enrollment courses, including title, author(s), & edition number or year when not provided on the syllabi.

If she stays in state there are articulation agreements with the college and most of the colleges/universities in state and with the course transfer tools that we’ve checked most of the credits transfer (depending on program) without the need for supplementing with syllabi etc. but if she goes out of state she’ll have to be prepared with these items to substantiate her credits.
We have a very similar situation with our D27 - a bunch of college credit, and has started CommonApp (for First Year Students) and will at least submit to local Safety very soon. My question relates to this:
How do we comply with this requirement? There is a CommonApp section “Education-Colleges & Universities” to list college(s) from which high school student has obtained college credit. But how do D27’s college transcript(s) end up being transmitted to the colleges being applied to in CommonApp? We haven’t (yet) found a place in CommonApp to explicitly request college transcript(s) be sent. Is there anything else in CommonApp to do for this? Is there other action to take to make sure college transcript(s) are sent, both because we want them to be sent, and because it’s just plain compulsory. OP, I hope you don’t mind me jumping in with these questions, since you probably also want to know the logistics of how to do this.
You either contact the college registrar to send to each place you apply or, ideally and more economically, have them send to your HS and have them send with the HS transcript.
I appreciate these questions too. I requested 3 transcripts to be sent directly to the colleges; I went to our college registrar page and followed their process (National Clearinghouse) to have a secure in progress transcript sent to each school. It’s $10 each so I agree, costs can add up if sending to 10-15 schools. I like the idea of having the college send a transcript to the HS guidance office to have it included w the HS transcript but I’d be worried if this would be viewed as unofficial and/or accidentally get left off some transcript packages since the addition of the college transcript would be not normal procedure. I think I’d rather have the peace of mind that it was sent securely, and retrieved by each school (Clearinghouse sends you an email to let you know). I’ll likely go this route with all of my daughter’s schools/applications.
You can look at each college’s requirements for the DE transcript. Many schools will take unofficial transcripts during the admissions process because the cost of sending official transcripts is an access issue.
Some schools don’t require a transcript in the admissions process and have the student enter the info in CA courses and grades, STARS, or their own system.
If the policy isn’t clear from the website, this is a good reason for your student to connect with their AO. It’s an appropriate question and demonstrates interest.
Our kid had to request that these transcripts be sent from the colleges where she took the courses…to each college where she was applying. In her case the course was listed on her HS transcript (because it also fulfilled a graduation requirement)…but the colleges she applied to wanted that official college transcript.
Thank you. I know she listed all of her coursework (both HS and the college coursework) in her STARS academic record but I know not all colleges link to that record. I think the suggestion of contacting each AO is a good one as I hadn’t thought about them letting her upload or supplement with the unofficial college transcript which she has a PDF of and can easily send (for free)!
