Sending flowers. Rec?

I did a search and the last discussion was in 2008. Has anyone recently sent flowers to another state? Do you have recommendations?
Thanks

Busy parent, tell us where you want to send flowers. A poster may be able to help. It seems like there are posters from everywhere here.

N Ohio.

i’d call the best hotel in town and ask their concierge for a recommendation for a florist in town. I’ve done that before and have gotten good recommendations. More reliable than Yelp, in my view.

Recently used FTD with a discount and free delivery. Quick, easy, family member loved the arrangement. I have used Pro Flowers in the past and had no problem until I ordered flowers for a funeral. When I saw them, I called the company immediately and got no where with them. They were smaller than described and way overpriced. I usually don’t let something like that go, but was too upset during that time to push further. I have also used 800 Flowers and have been pleased. @nottelling had a good suggestion about contacting a local hotel for a recommendation.

If it’s near Toledo, I like Schramm’s, Bartz Viviano or Ken’s. In that order. I think we have some Cleveland posters if it’s more that part of Northern Ohio.

I’d concur with all the suggestions that you call a local florist. I have not had great success with FTD or the other services, but I’ve gotten great arrangements when working with a local florist.

A secretary at a local church can often suggest a good florist, though I like the idea of calling an upscale hotel.

I’ve used 1-800Flowers, but they are probably overpriced. Since I don’t do it very often, I just swallow the overcharge and order.

I worked at a florist for many years, you will definitely get better results calling the florist directly. FTD has a service charge which will make your flowers more expensive. The local florist will know what they have in stock.

The least expensive option is always cut flowers arranged in a vase, you will get more for your money than designed in foam, and they will last longer. You can also send cut flowers in a box, that the recipient can put in their own vase. Plants are always nice too, especially for less happy occasions.

My favorite flowers are called alstroemeria, they come in tons of different colors and they last almost 2 weeks in a vase.

I generally check with the local yelp reviews and contact the florist directly.

If you are looking for a florist in the Cleveland area, especially east side, we’ve been very happy with A.J. Heil in Shaker Heights. They can do very personalized arrangements.

I like the idea of calling a local florist. I was thinking of something for the table although cut flowers in a vase is probably better

I always find a local florist and call them directly. I used FTD once and the results were horrible. When I went to the wake and saw the flowers I was embarrassed.

I’m in NW Ohio - Deb’s suggestions are good for the local area. I don’t order flowers often but if I can help somehow otherwise with location NW Ohio, PM me.

I googled florists in the town, and called the place that had a nice website. The owner took my call, and is friends with the family that I was sending flowers to! Thanks for the suggestion to call a florist directly.
