I want to do something special for my daughters 21st B-day this week. She is living in a dorm.
Anyway I found a florist online that says it delivers to her school -but I am unsure how it all works. I will call the florist tomorrow. But in the meantime I was wondering how florists deliver to dorms with key carded entry. Also wondering if she would have to be in.
Anyone with experience with this? Thanks
I imagine they would deliver it to the front desk, who would call your daughter down to get the package, at least that’s what they would do at my D’s school.
I used to work for a florist, sometimes they will add candy bars/snacks to the arrangement if you ask them That’s always fun to do.
Thanks
I don’t know if there is a front desk at the dorm.
In that case, they will usually ask for the students phone number, and the delivery driver will call and say “I have a delivery for you, will you be available at specified time?{”.
I see - thanks. This may be too much trouble on her end. Maybe I should just stick to cash LOL
Thanks again
If she likes chocolates or cakes or other sweets, those can be sent in packages that get delivered to her college mail room.
I think you can have flowers sent to the mailroom, too – just tell her to pick up her package as soon as it arrives.
This is too school-specific for any of us to give advice to you. Some dorms have people at a front desk to sign for and hold packages; others don’t. Some have central mail rooms in places students regularly access; for others, the central mail rooms are inconvenient. This is just nothing any of us can answer for the OP.
Happy bday, OP’s daughter!
WARNING: Try to use a known florist local to the college and directly arrange the order and delivery. We’ve had really bad experiences using national floral delivery services. Check Yelp for the horror stories.
Also, the local florist will know the delivery-to-students drill at the college.
Thanks. This is helpful.
Be careful with Yelp reviews. Lots of them are planted by the competition, and Yelp does nothing about that. Other than that, a local florist near the college likely has experience with delivering flowers to students.
When my daughter was at a small LAC, the flowers I sent her when to the mail room. She was then sent an email notifying her of a package… Of course at her school, anything that didn’t fit in the mailbox was left at the mail room, and the student received an email to retrieve the package.
Call the school or check their website and see how packages, food, flowers are received.
Does she have a roommate or friend you could ask to get the flowers if you pre=pay?
Thanks all
If this is GT then I don’t know if I would do it…It might end up being a pain for your DD to get them.
I decided to send them to her work. It shouldn’t be a big deal there.
Yes she is at GT. I decided dorm would be too hard on her. Thanks all
