Sending Home cooked meals

My baby boy is missing his Mamas delicious home cooked meals…any advice on the best way to send them? I am in NY (Long Island) and he is in Boston College…thanks in advance!

We live very far away from both daughters schools. I cook/vaccum pack/freeze and send fed-ex next day air.I let the girls know to expect a special delivery so they must pick up the package. With enough room left in the vaccum packs all the girls have to do is throw stuff in the microwave or leave in fridge till they are ready to eat.

What are you sending??

I think it would depend on what kinds of foods you want to send; do you have any ideas? What are his favorites?

Okay here’s what I would do. I’d put the food in Tupperware or buy one of those vacuum seal doohickys. Then I’d put the food in a big box with lots of foam and surround it with those freezer thingies. We have ones left over from when we’ve been sent smoked fish that are nice and big, but you can also buy them at the supermarket.

I have cooked, frozen and overnighted food. It is quite expensive to do that. Last time I sent barbecued chicken, ribs, and other meat dishes. It cost $40.00. My friend has bought the foam coolers, and dry ice, and shipped by cheaper/slower methods.

If I lived that close (5 hours) I would fill my car with frozen home-cooked meals and drive over to fill his freezer. This way i would get to see him too!!!

You moms are much nicer than I plan to be next year when D is away at school. If she wants my cooking, she has to come home to get it! :)

I decided it is SO expensive that a surprise gift certificate to a pub-food kind of place near campus that he likes is a better treat. (And he’s always thrilled by it - ooh I’m such a softie, but I hate it that’s he’s hungry!). I do send him cookies or pumpkin bread now and then…also expensive!

Why would your son, 'Send Home, cooked meals" ?

Amen! I considered it oh-so-thoughtful of me to remember to make brownies (from a mix) to bring to D when we went up for Parents’ Weekend. Perhaps I should have arrive with a meatloaf? ;)

weenie, You have the right idea.

My son was home for a week around Thanksgiving. Before I began cooking for Thanksgiving I cooked a few of his favorite dishes. He devoured everything that I put out the first night that he was home! There is some food still left in my freezer, b/c I made SO much! Now when he comes home in 2 weeks I will have a head start on my cooking. LOL, my other son likes some of the same dishes, but he does not know that I have some left in the freezer, and I am not going to tell him.
