sending in a self-recorded cd with application?

I know that Stanford usually frowns on most supplemental materials, but would a self-recorded and produced music album be eligible to submit for the fine arts department?

Also, how much would something like this help my application; would it be a valid ‘hook’?

Any input or experience would be appreciated.

A music album would be an excellent supplement. Stanford has a [fine arts supplement](http://www.stanford.edu/dept/uga/pdf/Freshman05_FARF.pdf) form specifically for recorded music, artwork, etc. Provided it is very good, it can help your chances. Stanford says that when all else is equal, a very good supplement can provide the little push towards admittance, however, unless you are extraordinarly involved in music it is not a hook. A “hook” is a bit more unique than talented musician. A hook would be if you made a CD and then used the profits to head a campaign to promote literacy in Somalia by building schools, hiring teachers and buying books, for example.
