Sending in an application update

Hello, I would appreciate some advice from the board.

I am applying to some competitive schools as an East Asian Studies major, specifically Mandarin, as a non-heritage speaker. I previously attended a US-based language immersion program 2 summers ago and also got a scholarship to study abroad in the same language, the summer after. I already included these details in my application.

I just found out earlier today that I got into the Princeton-in-Beijing program at the 3rd year level. While Princeton-in-Beijing is more selective/rigorous, I am not sure whether this is a sufficient basis for an update since it could be seen as a duplication of information that’s already in my application. I worry that a needless repetition could be annoying.

I would appreciate a different perspective. Thank you!

Unless this is a high honor tantamount to an award, I am not sure there is anything here to report. You were selected to participate in a program - great. But you have not yet participated in that program, correct? So what can you really say - you haven’t actually done anything yet (and, for all they know, you won’t).

Unless this is a super-selective program (akin to a national level type award) I don’t expect it would move the needle in terms of college acceptance. But if you want to update that is your choice.

I am biased against reporting acceptances to programs as awards. It’s like putting “admiited to Harvard SCEA” on your Princeton application.

@Maximum_Find Congratulations!

Can you clarify:
Were you accepted to Princeton SCEA?
Were you planning to add this honor/ update to your applicaitons to other schools on your list? I would not recommend it, if your answer to both questions is “yes”.
