<p>I make hand-made medical play dolls for a nearby children’s hospital. They’re pretty good actually- very cute. I was wondering what everyone’s opinion on my sending it in to the admissions office was.</p>
<p>I don’t think you should send them in, but you should mention it in your application. </p>
<p>Your ability to make cute play dolls is not a skill that Princeton will be interested in, since it has no correlation with academic capacity or future success. However, the fact that you are so committed to your volunteering that you took the time to handmake dolls reflects well on your character and dedication - so mentioning it would be helpful.</p>
<p>I think it’s up to you. Generally if you send in extras that aren’t very impressive it may hurt you, as you can be seen as wasting their time. If you think it is very important they see these dolls, go for it. It might not be as much of a pain as an extra essay or something b/c they can just look at it. But what are you trying to show them by sending these dolls? If I were to send that in I would include an explanation of all the amazing things I did at the hospital and how it is of personal value to me. Sending the doll on its lonesome would create confusion if not disdain.</p>

<p>If the dolls could be tied in to one of your essays and they tell a story or show your creativity then use them.</p>
<p>I would not send them in but rather you can take digital images converted into 35mm slides.</p>

<p>Why would an admissions officer care how good you are at making dolls? What matters is that you took the time to do it - something that should have been mentioned in your counselor rec, and maybe in an additional rec from someone involved with the hospital, and on your list of Ecs</p>

<p>there is such a thing as standing out, all the accepted applicants manage to do so in some sort of fashion, but your ability to make dolls doesn’t suit any institutional needs of theirs and isn’t a skill that proves your potential beyond the sake of crafts</p>
<p>i think definitely send a photo of it, preferably attached to the appropriate essay.
it will look very humane, and that will give the adcoms a great rest from thousands of hard applications</p>
