Sending scores to a college as a junior

So, when I was filling out the AP form, my guidance counselor told us to put down one of our favorite colleges down to have our scores sent to. I don’t really understand the point of sending scores if I haven’t applied yet or been accepted, since no AP score reports are needed (self-reported.) I sent my scores to a selective LAC (my favorite) but I don’t understand what they’ll do with the scores. I mean, I have not even applied to the college yet. What was the purpose of sending scores?

It can’t hurt, honestly. APs are generally not given too much weight anyways, which is why colleges let you report them on the Common App. But strong AP scores can only be good for your application.

They’ll probably store the score report in case you get in and decide to attend. I think it might show that you’re really dedicated to that college, but since you already list them on your application and colleges don’t ask for score reports, I doubt it will change much.
