I’m really confused as to how you send scores with ACT as an international student. None of this stuff is online, so I have to wait for the mail report for this December ACT? Does that mean I should just send scores with the registration packet and pray for the best? (I’m a senior with Jan. app. deadlines…)

I remember hearing that if you have your SSN, you can check your scores? Is this true for international students as well? Edit: Just checked, and apparently I can’t. This is ■■■■■■■■… I won’t know my scores until January by mail and have to send them beforehand to colleges… Does this mean I can send my scores online in late Decemeber when scores are supposedly available, even if I don’t know whether the mail report’s been sent? (since I’ll be traveling)

And is the ACT like the SAT in that they send a collective report of all your past scores as well as current scores?

Stupid ACT… how can they not post scores on the internet?!

I’m kind of also confused. I’m taking the ACT, and I’m sending my scores to colleges but I also sent my SAT scores also because I hear most colleges need SAT IIs. However, after reading a bit of CC i’ve noticed that people don’t send in their sat scores if they are just using their act scores. Did i do something wrong? And since I sent both, are the colleges just going to choose the higher one? And If my ACT score is higher, will they choose that and just look at my SAT 2s? Thank!

A January application deadline doesn’t mean your scores are due in January. They might be and they might not–depends on the school, of course.

You can send scores as soon as they’re available, which is the same time they hit the mail. December scores coming out online for testers in the US is NOT a sign that your scores might be available. Yours might be ready earlier or later–it seems to be unrelated. You won’t know they’re available until you get the scores in the mail or call them to find out; I’d call them to check a couple weeks after the test because it can take a long time to get them in the mail internationally.

ACT keeps each test separate, so you only send the scores from one test. If you want to send other scores, you have to send another report.

Lots of people send all their test scores, so I’m sure the schools won’t consider anything you did to be “wrong”. Many students who post here check which scores each school requires or accepts before sending them, and are very concerned with only sending their best scores that meet the requirements (e.g., SAT or ACT, whichever is better), and not sending any second-best scores if they don’t have to. But I really don’t think you can go too wrong sending everything–I doubt many schools have the time or the desire to scrutinize extra scores. I believe most of them will simply use the better of your SAT or ACT scores in admissions decisions, although it’s possible some may prefer one test and always use that one if you send it.

Some schools don’t require SAT IIs if you send ACT scores. Some do. If they do, you can assume they’re looking at your SAT IIs even if they’re using your ACT score.

Almost all the schools I’m applying to request the scores be sent in early January. So basically by the time I get my scores, it’ll be too late to send scores. I hate how this is all a gamble - I have to send my SAT scores to all the colleges due to the fact I can’t take the writing ACT this testing period and I need to send subject tests anyway. But I want to send ACT in case I score better, but I can’t really tell because I don’t know my SAT scores OR my ACT scores for this month… and yet I have to decide now!

Ugh, this is so frustrating!

Thanks Mrs. Ferguson, that helped cleared some issues up.
