Senior in desperate need of financial aid application guidance

Hey everyone,

I am currently applying for financial aid for private colleges. A lot of the colleges (like Union College) are asking me for financial document I either don’t have, don’t have access to, or will take a long to get when considering their deadline. I’m not sure what to do in order to get past these little things that make applying for financial aid harder.

Hello. FIN AID is a difficult process. They need the documents by a certain date. It is a hard date like an application deadline.

You will have to get them what they want in order to be considered for FIN AID. I know it is hard but you have to get it some how.

Was there a specific question you had?

Yes.
On my mother’s taxes, she received social security benefits and I have to turn in what called a “SSA-1099 Social Security Family”. I’ve been looking through the tax returns and I haven’t been able to find a 1099 form. How else can I get that document to give to the college?

The 1099 would have been what the Social Security Agency sent to your mother to show how much money she received from them in a year. She would then use that to file her taxes. It’s similar to a W2 that you receive from an employer. If she can’t find hers, she can get a replacement online: https://faq.ssa.gov/link/portal/34011/34019/article/3706/how-can-i-get-a-form-ssa-1099-1042s-social-security-benefit-statement

The 1099 is not required to be attached to the tax return so it might just be in the tax file and not with the return. nice link above to get another.

Okay thank you for help!!
