Senior Schedule Dilemma

Brown is easily my first choice of college -primarily
because of PLME. With this being said, I have had some conflicts in
deciding on courses for my senior year and I would appreciate any
suggestions that you may have.

I am trying to decide between Psych AP and Comparative GovernmentAP.
The reasoning behind each: Psychology: pros-scientific background, good background for public health/international medicine (field of interest); cons-test can be taken without the class, theories(kinda boring) comprise most of the class.
Comparative: pros -international health care systems, good background,
includes my interest in political science, good teacher; cons-no
connection to “science”.
Most importantly, I would like to know how important having a foreign
language for your senior year really is. This year I am in French IV
Honors, and next year I would take French V AP, however, I feel that
the difficulty level of the course would bring my GPA down, and
frankly, I don’t enjoy French that much. Instead, I would like to take Econ, because of my interest in international health (economics –> health care in developing vs. developed nations)
Suggestions??

Seeing as though AP Psych is so easy to self-study for, I think that you should do that. There are GOLDMINES of resources on the internet for this particular course that will prepare you for a 4-5 depending on how interested/diligent you are. Comparative G&P on the other hand is difficult to prepare for without the class.

Thus, the natural choice, as to exhibit your knowledge of both, would be to self-study Psych and actually take Comparative.

In regards to French, you need to take it. No matter how difficult it is, if you’re applying to Brown I doubt that discontinuing it would look good. The whole point of the foreign language requirement is for mastery and utilization. I’m sure Brown would like to see you at least look as if you were in it for the language as opposed to the requirement.

that was my intial reaction.
but then im taking 5APs, and I would rather spend time studying for chem, calc, french/econ, than studying for cmparitive AND selfstudy for psych.
my thinking is if i take psych, it would be easier and not as much stress.

you’re advice makes sense about french, but i realyyy dont want to take it.

Oh but no no no, Psych is EEEEEASY.

Like it’s still summer. You could go through online lessons for the class and then when the school year starts you could just go through a Princeton Review or Barrons. Psych is very fact based, and the actual application of what you learn is minimal. If you’re good at memorization then I really think it could be a breeze.

And what I’m doing for Honors Chem. next year is just acting like I like it. Lol, it sounds crazy, but just try to format your mind like the kids who actually enjoy French. Look on the bright side - the French Empire had many holdings and Western Africa, which, barring a couple quickly progressing nations, is in much need of healthcare; and I’m sure your AP French skills will come in handy. OR, you could always take Honors French V(or do they have that)?

French V AP for you = language or literature? (It’s literature for us, but you said your IV was just honors instead of AP, so I wasn’t sure)

so i’ve decided not to take french
an additional reason, which i recently found out, was that it would not fit in my schedule (it’s only offered one period). i think ill take teh SATIIs just to shwo some sort of apptitude. They dont offer French V honors (i wish!) and it’s language, not literature -though i feel literature would be a lot easier if it was taught well

as for psychology? i think ill self study. thanks for the tips! do you know any online course thats free? (do those even exist :)? )

so now im in a bind abut microeconomics and comparitive government. is it worth taking both? if i dont take one id be dropping orchestra. so the question really is -is econ or comp govt more useful/helpful? or is both the better option?
or does it really matter?

im sorry im so indecisive
