My daughter is considering Muhlenberg for acting/writing. It sounds like a great school. We are concerned about NYC contacts once students graduate from Muhlenberg. Does anyone know anything about the senior showcase? How helpful is it to further your career? Are there any other things Muhlenberg does to help kids find jobs in NYC?

dramamama-there are two other forums which might be more helpful for your questions.
This one is the Muhlenberg specific forum: [Muhlenberg College - College Confidential](Muhlenberg College - College Confidential Forums)

Then, there is also a discussion about Muhlenberg within the musical theatre forum [Muhlenberg College MT - College Confidential](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/muhlenberg-college-mt/)

My third suggestion is to contact Charles Richter, the head of the program, directly. He is very approachable and you should have your student make the contact by email or phone.

My D, who is a graduating senior did not participate in the showcase this year. She is planning to move back to California, and felt that the contacts she would make there would not be what she needed. This is the first year the showcase has been done, and I don’t know the results. I will be on campus later this week and will ask some of my D’s friends who did participate.
I know that there are opportunities to work with people from New York. For instance my D was just in a premiere of a new Charles Strouse musical, and worked with people from New York on that show.
Muhlenberg also regularly has guest faculty from NY, both in the dance department and the theatre department. Also, during summer musical theatre the students work alongside professionals from NYC, as well as local actors.
Seniors are also offered seminars with alumni who are working actors as well as other people well connected in NYC. I don’t know how that manifests itself in terms of finding work after graduation, but I know several of her classmates have regularly gone into the city for auditions and such.

Thanks for all the info everyone! It really seems like Muhlenberg is the best of both worlds. My daughter doesn’t want to go to school in noisy NYC, loves nature and the outdoors. I read in one of the threads that Charles Richter sends some kids to casting directors/auditions in NYC. It really isn’t that far away and another thread referred to the “Muhlenberg Mafia” in NYC–they are “connected” ha ha. I love the idea that she can live on their beautiful campus, yet still visit NYC when she needs to. We are so thrilled with Muhlenberg it is hard to come up with other schools to check out. Has anyone checked out Drew University in NJ?
