Senior Willing to Answer Questions

“i have a question about the grading at bu. i’m a freshman right now and i’m kinda worried about the grading. do all the classes grade on a curve? and if so, how often do students get a lower grade than they deserve? i guess this kinda goes back to the grade deflation thing. is the grade deflation present in all bu classes?”

Seriously–don’t worry about it. Most of your professors should have been explicit as to their grading terms, so just go by what the syllabus says. And no, deflation isn’t a problem in all classes.

How is the admissions at COM? Is it as competitive as SMG? And is the grade deflation really that bad?

I don’t know the current stats but COM SAT’s a few years ago were about 1400 with a 3.7+, so it’s pretty competitive.

how many recomendations do you need for undergrad admissions?

The deflation issue is blown out of proportion. Statistically the difference is small compared to schools that inflate grades. It happens in some but not many classes. Usually the very large ones. Plus BU is attempting to set a policy denouncing it, per student union minutes, etc. Just choose classes wisely if you are worried about it. You can learn about a professor’s grading and expectations on ratemyprofessor.com or the Bunite section of livejournal.com. Check LJ “memories” section for professor ratings and student comments about specific classes.

i hope someone didnt ask this already but sats II are required right? how many?

SAT 2s questions:

You really should check out the BU web site for this type of info. Like most colleges you may not need SAT 2s if you are submitting the ACT.
