Senior year for kids applying for music

Performance EC’s at Harvard are high level, many are funded and get some credit. Performance is sometimes woven into classes. Lessons can continue though Harvard does not provide the teacher. Princeton has a music performance certificate and an exchange program with the Royal College of Music which is in my view not much different from what Harvard offers. Yale has the School of Music: undergrads tend to study with grad students unless exceptionally talented. Main message: whether Ivies or other schools, check the details.

My kid did music at Harvard (couldn’t afford conservatories) and my kid and several friends went on to master’s or doctorates and have music careers. In hindsight the exposure to literature, art history, environmental science or whatever still enriches their work, but that is an individual matter.
