Senior year/midyear report

After searching and reading various threads and talking to my counselor, I have not been able to find a clear answer. Hpoefully this isnt a stupid question and someone else is wondering too.

Do colleges (NYU) count first semester senior year grades/ classes for admission?

I know some places accept you and check your transcript to make sure you arent blowing off classes, but does NYU use senior grades in their decision whether to admit you or not? If I take a rigorous courseload senior year would it not help me get in?

Well your asking two different questions, rigor of senior year schedule is most definitely taken into account, and most colleges also look at the mid year report during the admissions process as well. USC actually sent me a letter asking to see the mid-year grades, and stated they are given the same weight as any other grades achieved in high school, no more but also no less taken in context of the rigor of your schedule, of course. So to answer your question, yes rigor definitely matters, and I almost certain grades matter as well at NYU.

They will check your transcript to decide whether they need to rescind their offer of admission, but the only reason they might do that would be if you had multiple Cs, a D in something related to the program you applied to, or an F.

As for the rigor of your coursework affecting your decision definition, definitely. If you’re taking stacked APs and Honors coursework, you’re challenging yourself more than someone coasting by with senioritis with basket-weaving, shop, home economics, and comparative literature.

So rigor is important, but NYU doesn’t see your 1st semester grades until they admit you?

(bump)

Bad senior grades can get your offer rescinded, but would NYU see first semester senior grades when they are deciding whether or not to admit a student?

also, how much lower can your grades get 2nd semester before NYU decides to take back their offer of acceptance? Some of my grades will be the same, but some will be lower!

NYU requires a midyear report BEFORE admission decisions are sent out for RD, so yes your first semester grades are taken into account. If you apply any of the EDs they require first quarter grades to help make a decision. Second semester grades do not matter unless you drop well below your average so much so that NYU feels the need to rescind an offer of admission.

Read the first paragraph of my earlier post. They won’t rescind an offer unless there’s a significantly major drop in your academic performance, and half the time you can even explain it away with a valid reason (started working half- or full-time to earn money for college, death in the family [God forbid], started volunteering doing community service, illness, etc.).

Don’t worry about it too much.
